Ultimate K-3 interview guide

What are the big differences from K-1 and CR-1 interviews? How much evidence do they really want? How picky are they about the specifics of the I-134 and co-sponsor? etc., etc, etc.

I should just stop thinking about the kids interview on the 24th. If anyone has the "ultimate" guide, or can point me to it, I would appreciate it.

My son left for Thailand yesterday, and I immediately thought of a couple of things he should have taken, but didn't.

Thai Mom,

Here is the review from my "timeline":

"Arrived at 6:30 am for our 7:30 am interview appointment. I attended the interview with Rin. Went to window 5 at 7 am, a thai lady sorted through all of the documents that we had, gave a few back to us, had Rin write her name in Thai on one that had not been completed, then told us to take a seat. We waited until 9:30 for Rin's interview. During that time, we saw maybe 6 other fiancee or spouses go up for interviews. It was apparent that at least two did not get approved. One was a fiancee who (according to Rin as it was all in Thai) needed more proof of relationship. The other was a spouse and her husband was at the interview. It appeared that their documentation was incomplete as they had an 8:30 appointment, but only waited 30 minutes until they were called to the window, forms reviewed, and went away to collect the additional information needed.

Rin's interview was conducted in english by a gentleman that was obviously new and still training. When we got to the window, Rin's paperwork was laying on the counter with a big red "approved" stamped at the top! The questions he asked:

Rin:

1) How did we meet?

2) How long ago did we meet?

3) How many times have I visited her?

He then asked me:

1) How did we meet? Not sure why since Rin had told him in English and I was standing right there!

2) Have I met her family?

3) How many times have I been to visit Rin? I had offered to let him see my passport when he asked Rin, and he said it wasn't necessary. After he asked me the same question, he asked if he could see my passport. I have spent over 100 days in Thailand since last July, so I guess he was satisfied.

After the questions, he gave us back some of the forms/pictures and told us to return the next day at 3pm to pick up Rin's visa.

We arrived at 3 pm on the 18th (in the same room as the interview windows) and there were only two other people waiting for their visa. We waited about 15 minutes before someone finally came out and gave us our packets for immigration and passports.

It was straight to the airport and a 7:30 pm departure to the USA!"

Had to cut and paste as my memory is foggy!

John

Thanks John. I trust my DIL's interview will be that simple. I will pass your experience on to her. He was so excited about getting back to Thailand to see her that he didn't pay much attention to detail. He spent more time on the phone talking to her than he did getting ready to leave! How are your wife and children adjusting to life here?

They are doing great! Some homesickness at first, but it's gone now. I asked my youngest daughter last night if she wanted to go back to Thailand on vacation - nope - no internet, no cable TV, no swimming pool.... All three of them are eager (I guess all four as Mom is ready too) for school to start next month.

The adjustment was pretty easy once Rin found out she could get Thai food, watch Thai TV, read Thai news on the internet, and call Thailand!
