I need to eat more fiber - I think I'll get some one a day tablets or something. And buy more fresh fruit and veg.

Spinach is really good.

The powder Psyllium Husk Fiber is great though - you're poo time will be short and sweet. Pro-biotics are good to maintain healthy flora in the intestines...or eat a lot yogurt.

Spinach strips the enamel off your teeth though. There's always a down-side to all these healthy things...

Really? :o I had no idea. I love spinach. No wonder Popeye has no teeth.

omg that made me lolz

Sister Fraces - I just found the article. Sadly the accompanying photos were not archived:

http://shopping.guardian.co.uk/beauty/stor...,663662,00.html

Well, it was an interesting article. Still wouldn't do what they had to do at that Spa though.

I don't get fibre substition. If you eat plenty of pulses, fruit and veg (which we are supposed to do for all kind of splendidly scientific reasons) then you are going to get oodles of fibre and your colon isn't going to be full of gunk.

I never understood how someone could go for more than 12 hours without pooping either, bizarre and rather worrying.

 Pooping patterns are different for everyone. There is nothing wrong with pooping every other day, as long as the poop isn't hard and one has to strain to eliminate. Some people poop once a day, some three times a day. There really is no "normal". I'm very regular yet don't poop twice a day.

How Much Fiber Do I Need to Eat?

At present there is no official recomended daily allowance (RDA) for dietary fiber. However, official guidelines advise about 20-25g of fiber per day, for both men and women.

It is best to get your dietary fiber naturally from high-fiber foods rather than from bran or general fiber supplements.

PS. Fiber is sometimes known as Non-starch polysaccharides (NSP).

LOL...I'll bet it left you feeling 'empty' inside.

lol, alright, you have the right to poop as often or as little as you like!

I like my poop time...it's when I can get away from everyone else and read a magazine.

I actually read every post.....

I don't know about this whole colonic irrigation stuff. My brother died of colon cancer, maybe colons just freak me out as a result of that.

Actually, I do fit the 'map' stereotype in that I have to turn it around as I go around corners or I get confused. However, I don't fit the 'spacial awareness' stereotype as I am a whiz at reverse parking and reversing with trailers - I have also driven the odd lorry or two.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Thanks, Steven.

I have an unhealthy fear of colons, flying roaches, and eye surgery.

I'm sorry about your brother.

Colonoscopies are recommended on a regular basis after one reaches 50. Preparation basically involves taking a strong laxative the day before and the morning of with a liquid diet in between. You are pretty well cleaned out by all that! If there were any 'gunk' still sticking to the colon they would not be able to use the colonoscope as a diagnostic device for colon cancer/polyps, etc.. That fact that they can after a very basic 'cleanse' indicates to me that there isn't much truth to the statement that there are 'years' of gunk remaining attached to the insides of one's colon. They do provide you with 'photographs' taken during the colonoscopy so you can see for yourself just how clean the colon gets from the laxatives. Not a pleasant topic, but sometimes a good one - especially when colon cancer is a very real threat.

Having read the article I see a number of strong caveats about undergoing colonic irrigation. If you want to go that route, take advantage of the cleanse and do it in conjunction with a colonsocopy arranged by your doctor. You don't need to wait until 50 to get it done. (My brother at 49 suffered a perforated bowel from diverticulitis that he didn't even know he had. A colonsocopy would have informed him of that problem if he had had one done. A year - and a coloscopy after the emergency surgery later - he is finally back to normal).
