I'm just now seeing this thread, allousa. What a terrible, sad story!

I am confused though - is it actually CUSTOMS agents who boarded the plane and etc. or was it immigration agents? I always thought customs got involved second - only after the person had cleared immigration - at the point where his parent's would have been recovering their bags. I really don't understand how or why customs agents would be involved the moment the plane landed. Unless maybe they suspected them of smuggling or possessing something illegal. That's the part of the story that I really can't get my head around (not that I can comprehend their behavior in most of it).

They were actually Homeland Security officers, all of them. There were never any officers labeled from another department or section.

Since we don't know what they denied him entry for and none of us were ever told...I'm at a loss as much as you!

That is so bizarre. I'm sure you'll be able to get to the bottom of it once the lawyer(s) get involved. Like someone said earlier, I would have figured your hubby would have had more trouble when he entered on his visa -- not his 65/70 year old parents!!!

ETA I hope you've told your in-laws that all of us here on the forum are appalled by the behavior of those officers. They do NOT represent the American people and our attitudes.

Though I don't blame them for not wanting to return to America anytime soon (which is truly sad).

Hi Allousa,

how is your family holding out now? Is your husband still mad? I can tell you I am in no way involved is this horror story and I am still upset at the way he was treated. I hope they get fired, all of them. I would not pitty them one bit.

Please keep us updated.

Your FIL is very classy person. I wonder why they denied him but let your MIL go? that is so wrong.

Peace to you.

Horrible details keep continuing to spill out from this ordeal.

My husband talked to his father again today and find out some more details of his detention. We were assured by the HS officers that my FIL would be put into an "Immigration Holding Facility" where he would be in a room by hisself. I think I posted earlier that he was put in with general population inmates. Well, he was put in this holding cell from midnight until sometime the next morning where he only had a seat and could lean against a wall to rest. He was only transferred to a room where he could sleep for only about two hours.

The same officer that escorted him to the gate and onto the plane is the same officer that came to pick him up at the jail. This officer insisted that he be cuffed from behind and pushed my FIL several times heading to the van...even though my FIL did nothing to resist. He was rough getting him out of the van at the airport and pushed him several more times. I didn't post earlier that when we met up with my FIL the next day, he had blood in his mouth. He told us that he didn't even know it was bleeding. I know my FIL will never admit that he was hit in order to protect his sons because I can tell you right now that if any of the brothers knew they put their hands on their father....there would be hell to pay for sure.

This same officer was nice as pie when he was walking with us. I would have never guessed what an azzhole he had been to my FIL.

I honestly don't know at this point what is keeping me from going back down to the airport and going in that Customs office and slapping those bas-tards in the face. And believe me, I don't think I would stop there.

I just can't convey the level of my disgust and anger.

I can't seem to get over this. I can't even imagine the pain or how difficult it was for him to tell his father he had to spend the night in jail.

I mean that alone in itself brought tears to my eyes.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

I also am very sickened over the treatment of your family by these callous DHS officers.

There are several organizations that do get involved in matters like this. The first that comes to mind is CAIR.

All of our SO's are subject to this treatment also. When I was returning from vacation last year, they detained my ex because his answer of how long we were out of the country (11 days) he said 14 and we were pulled into an interrogation room! While in there we saw a man that had come on business and they didnt like that idea and said 'no you will return to jordan on the next plane.' I have read in the news several times that someone WITH a 10 year card...is turned back. My point, be careful on those return trips, a greencard is not a guraantee back in. Neither is a visa.

I am still sickened about this whole incident and then reading about blood in your FIL mouth, which put me over the top. Try to document any and all injuries with pictures if you can, get you the most aggressive loud mouth lawyer you can find, that wins, and sue them for all they are worth. ACLU is awesome and they can be ruthless and that is what you want. Now is time to take off the gloves and hit them hard.

^^^ That's so true

I think if alot of angered people do something about this and it gets out and makes those people look bad you wil get a good case out of it. A petition or something against those specific people because I'm sure Immigration services don't train their people to be rough and punch people. Definitely go after that specific A hole. Make him lose his job. Tell your father to get checked out at a doctor if the injury was that bad. I honestly think somebody should def do something ot make this a public announcement and I swear you will get so many Arab/Muslim supporters just because he was Morroccan.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is so unbelievable. They hit and pushed around a 70 year old man??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This doesn't even seem possible that something like that can happen in the US. What an incredible man your FIL is for keeping his dignity through hours of pure h@ll.

My husband comes back on the 24th. I'm beginning to wonder if I should be with him.

"True freedom and the end of suffering is living in such a way as if you had completely chosen whatever you feel or experience at this moment. This inner alignment with Now is the end of suffering. Is suffering really necessary? Yes and no. If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion. You would not be reading this now. Suffering cracks open the shell of ego, and then comes a point when it has served its purpose. Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary." Eckhart Tolle
