What Welshcookie said! Hope you've settled in, Catgirl, if you're reading this from your new home :)

Sent my DS-230 Part 1 today. Next thing is to get all the bits in order over the weekend, then mail the next bit on Monday.

Good luck, Chartreuse! Keep us informed of progress  The Embassy rang me at home yesterday and booked me in for an emergency interview....so I'm off on Tuesday!

Yay! Good luck for Tuesday and let us know how you get on :)

Hey everyone,

Good luck with your interview tomorrow Cookie, I'm glad they called you for an early one. Hopefully you'll be out of there quick and on your way to the states ASAP. Your son will love it here, I'm sure.

We absolutely love it here in Mt Pleasant SC. The weather has been gorgeous and the girls have settled really well in their new schools. It was such a relief last week on Thursday when they both came back from school with a big smile on their face, telling me about how cool it is and about the new friends they've made.

We flew to Charleston via Newark and our immigration papers were processed there. The 2 hour layover wasn't enough so we missed the connecting flight and had to spend the night in a nearby hotel. Please allow 3-4 hours if you need a connecting flight especially if you happen to fly through Newark.

Hi everyone, i'm just going through DCF London right now, my wife is US Citizen living with me in London right now, we're hoping to move to USA around November. We've received our NOA2 letter on August 24th, but still no packet 3 has arrived!! Should i be worried? It's been 2 weeks

Also Catgirl i'm interested in your experience at Newark, as we are moving to NC and will go via the same airport as you for our connecting flight to Greensboro, how long did it take to sort out your 'LPR' form at Newark?

Thanks!

I won't be going through Newark anytime soon. First we went to the immigration officer and promptly handed him the big envelopes. He then started asking questions, who petitioned for me, what does my husband do, where was my father born, etc etc. Then he called a second officer who took us to some room on the side where several other people were waiting. After about 30 minutes of just sitting there and waiting I went and told one of the officers that we had a flight to catch at 3.10. He just looked at me and said yeah ok, wait. After another 30 minute wait he called us and when I pointed at the big envelopes that were sitting on the desk right behind him, he said: why didn't you tell me you are a new immigrant because this will now take a while. I said, I tried telling you but....anyways, he filled some forms, attached our photos to them, took fingerprints and we were free to go. We then had to go collect our luggage and drag the 5 big suitcases and 3 small ones to the luggage check in. When we got there the guy handling the baggae who was too busy stuffing his face with a burger said that even though the plane was still there, there wasn't enough time to take the bags there. Had he tried just a little, maybe he would've made it but he simply didn't care. We then proceeded to the Continental desk where there were more people eating behind the counter. It was just weird seeing people eat crackers while trying to serve customers. Anyway we were told that out flight was the last one for the day and we'd have to fly the next morning. Since our flight from London was 11 minutes late getting into Newark, they paid for our hotel and dinner. It was a horrible experience, since we then had to carry all our suitcases into the air train, in the shuttle bus to the hotel, up to the room and repeat all that the next morning. The girls and me were almost in tears, it had been such a long and hard day and the people in Newark especially were plain rude.

p.s

our layover was 1 hour 50 minutes but it was myself and two daughters, so triple the paperwork. However, I'd highly recommend at least 3 hours between flights, just in case.

Hi guys....everything went pretty smoothly at the interview, we were only there for about an hour despite the huge sea of people that met me when I walked in! I had failed to fill in an affidavit for my son so got a blue slip....but the courier is picking that up this morning and once it arrives at the embassy they have promised to post the visas out right away :P Now I am waiting for the first of the removal guys to show up....it's madness in this house right now!

Catgirl....I'm really pleased you all have settled in so well, esp the girls at their new school....that's most of the battle won  I will be going through Atlanta and have also booked an overnight stay just in case.

dkenj90....you should be hearing back from the embassy really soon...visit the UK forum here also, there are lots of Brits there with experiences etc to share and will always be willing to answer questions that you have :D good luck, hope you get your pack 3 soon!

Ok, back to packing up my life....see you on the other side

Well, i got the packet 3 today!! Phew, i never should have doubted good old Royal Mail. So that's a good 15 day wait from NOA2 to Packet 3.

Hey Catgirl, thanks for the warning about Newark! Last time i went to NC i went via Washington Dulles, I had 2 hours between flights, it took 40 minutes from getting off the plane to picking up my luggage at the carousel, then i had to run to the check-in desk to re-check my bags, then hustle my way to the front of the security check line (not easy for a Brit, being all pushy and forceful, haha), then literally SPRINT to the gate to catch the onward flight with 1 minute to spare... I can't imagine having to do all that and STILL have to go through the paperwork at immigration! I'll look for a connecting flight with at least 6 hours inbetween I think!

Cheers

Ken

Hi all

Just a quick update - we've got my interview, it's this coming Friday! We spent yesterday getting the I-864 finished and collating domicile evidence for SWMBO. I think we've got everything we need - an ultra conservative valuation of our assets comes to about $78K and as there's only two of us we only need to show $52.5K, so hopefully we're OK there.

I've booked the day off work as leave, the UK house is on the market (and heavily discounted) and we've already been approved for a mortgage in the US (and have even put in an offer on a place), so it's fingers crossed!

Approved! Woot!!!

There was a bunch of waiting around, but it was painless overall. Plus, the CO said that it was the best Domicile letter he'd ever seen!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm very pleased for you. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago since we started the visa process, it was a real pain at times but it was well worth it. We're enjoying the sunshine here so much, don't think I'd ever want to go back to London again other than vsiting family and shopping of course.

Sorry to hear that your house there is still on the market. We are in the same boat, heavily discounted too like you said but it just wouldn't sell so now it's rented out. I think we'll just do what the rest of the country seems to be doing a the moment when it comes to property...wait and see.

Best of luck with your move.xx
