Well since I know this is just a trolling comment I wont take it too serious. But even as a trolling comment it makes no sense. What is racist about CNN doing a documentary about a certain group of Americans?

I definitely think it will be educational. Unfortunately, those who need to watch it probably won't, and those who do probably aren't the ones who need to be educated. But it should definitely be interesting. I saw the one which aired during Black History month and it was excellent.

I imagine a show about "People in America" probably wouldn't be very illuminating...

Lets all pretend that all things and all people are equivalent and equal, and that everyone's experience is the same - whether they be black, white, green, homeless or Donald Trump.

I imagine some sort of montage with stirring patriotic music, drum rolls and long slow motion cuts of the American flag flying in the wind.

Has anyone read Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin? He was a journalist and he artificially dyed his skin, posed as a black man and traveled around Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama (I think) in the late 50s/early 60s? I've never read it, but it came up in some of my prep for next year's Mass Media class and I was wondering if anyone has?

Marlita, this series sounds like something interesting to show in my class. Thanks for the tip. I rarely watch TV these days so I'm sure I'd have missed it.

I don't have it on my list now, but I'm thinking about adding it in future years. We discuss John Howard Griffin in the media ethics portion of the class and I've just never read the book. I was putting together some stuff and ran across the information again. Then this thread and your comment...I just put a hold on it at the library.

Well, it WAS just a trolling comment, but there IS a little bit of truth in there.

What if it were a CNN documentary about White people?

What if there was a White Expo?

What if we (U.S.) had "White History Month"?

What if someone used the term "black hole" in a commissioners meeting? (if you haven't read that thread, never mind)

Basically, the troll has a point. If white people try to draw attention to their "whiteness" in any way, it's called racist, prejudiced, or whatever. You can bet Jesse Jackson and the NAACP will be there to stop it.

To me these just seems to be a re-hash of the same format done in South Africa earlier this year.

Having said that, it was amazing and eye-opening for me.
