I-90 Info thread for Greencard errors

We filed an I-90 because the status category on my wife's card is wrong. It should be IF1 but the card says IR6. The problem is that my wife's wallet was stolen just before we mailed the application, so we weren't able to return the card. We weren't sure whether to go ahead and file the I-90 with option 'd' or file it as a lost/stolen card and pay the fee. We ended up trying to file based on the incorrect card. We sent the I-797D (mailer that came with the card) with the application and a letter asking that the requirement to return the original card be waived. We figured it's still worth a shot since we're not out any money except for the postage.

What are the odds they'll accept the I-90 without the card? The mistake is not just on the card - they actually adjusted my wife into the wrong status, so they should be able to figure that out without the card.

How will we know whether they've accepted our filing? From other posts I've seen, it doesn't look like they always send receipt notices for I-90s with option 'd'.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Has anyone received their new correct green card yet?

It's been nearly 4 mths since we sent ours and confirmation that USCIS received it. I have called their useless customer service line and was told not to do anything until 6 mths had passed from when they first received it. That's another 2 mths!! If it takes that long to get a new card produced I should've just gone home and gone through the whole journey again. It only took 7mths from start to finish!! LOL

11-05-06 Sent I-130 to California

06-01-07 INTERVIEW

06-04-07 Received VISA in the mail. Silly Consulate issued me CR-1 instead of IR-1, no time to change it in Australia, will try to change it once in California.

06-10-07 POE SFO

06-21-07 Receive SSN#

07-12-07 Receive Green Card in the mail STILL HAD CR1 INSTEAD OF IR1

12-10-07 Finally sent I-90 asking for a new green card with correct info.

06-17-08 INFOPASS - Was told USCIS sent new green card to old address back in Jan. Will resend it but may not be able to correct error as it was made by Consulate not USCIS.

What to do now??

Ours took a month. It was USCIS error.

Mine has the wrong date of birth.

My date of birth is Feb 1st, but they have it as 01-02

I am not going to send it back, it's how it's written in the UK anyway.

First of all, I am glad I found this topic, and cannot believe there are so many people with incorrect GCs.

After many sleepless nights, I decided to send I-90 and my dear precious yellow card with wrong status (CR1 instead of IR1). I was wondering, do you receive any notification that USCIS got it in the mail (I mean online on case status)? How long does it take for the new GC to arrive? Does it depend on the center where I-90 is processed (in my case it will be Texas)?

Sorry you have an error on your Greencard. You may be lucky and USCIS will just make you a new card and you will get it in about 3 months or so, OR they will ask for fresh biometrics to be done and then you may have to wait about 6 months+ to get the new card.

If you have not already done so, make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office, take a copy of the I-90 and/or the NOA1 receipt as proof of filing and ask for a I-551 (temp greencard) stamp to be placed in your passport. It is good for international travel and work.

Thanks Kez/JWolf...I'm never lucky when it comes to papers. I have the stamp good till Nov 2009, and i truly truly truly hope it won't take them that long.

Just want you to know I am in the same boat.

We crossed the border the day after our 2nd anniversary and received the conditional card. Made an infopass appointment and was told to fill out I-90 and mail back card.

I couriered the package and received a notice of receipt about 30 days later (with a new case number)

Mine was sent to Texas as well. Now four months from the date of the receipt letter I looked up the case status and it said I have been denied.

As I am very thankful to even have the card I am not freaking out, but we did wait so that we wouldn't have to deal with the USCIS for awhile.

Anyway, it said the denial letter was sent Jan 29/09 so hopefully I will get it soon and find out why. I will post as soon as I get it.

Well, I just got the letter and it isn't a denial (but the USCIS case status still says that...).

Anyway, it says that the authroized card was issued with incorrect info and that I should recieve the corrected card in 3-4 weeks. Woohoo!

Oh dear, they make you have a heart attack first, don't they?

Congratulations! You know, if the card production has been ordered, you may get it way faster than 3-4 weeks. ;)
