Hello all,

I am getting ready to assemble my wife's and step daughter's I-130 paperwork to send in. My question is should i send in all original copies and make 2 copies and have all information notorized to keep in case anything is needed later? do i need to send in my original birth certificate? Is there an example of what the cover letter should look like? I am sorry for all the questions, i would just like to make sure that i have everything together before sending it in. I appreciate any and all help that is offered.

Hi SS, Just send certified copies. Don't sent originals. For your letter, just state that you are filing the I-130, and list the supporting documents.

At the top of this page, read the guides. It explains all of this.

No you do not send in originals. It specifically says to send in copies!!! And no they do not need to be notorized or anything.

And yes, in the guides and example forms, there are examples of the cover letter.

i would strongly recommend reading the example forms and guides on this website found on the very top. they are extreemly helpful..i repeat, make sure you see sample forms for I-130 as one single error might causes a few days/months delay and that would be the last thing you would want...also, do not send originals coz if you do they will keep the originals for their records and they WILL NOT be returned back to you.

following are the sample cover letter and supporting doc list, hope this helps:
