I am sorry to read this, and intrigued at the same time. What 'proofs' did you carry with you to the consulate of your fiance's current income?

At any rate, your future inlaws should be informed that signing the I134 for your sponsorship is completely 'non-binding' in any legal sense. There is no part of the INA (Immigration and Nationality Act) wherein there is any code which gives the I134 any legal teeth.

It is now July and by the time you enter the US and marry, 2008 will nearly be over. Your fiance will be able to file a 2008 tax return in early 2009 that reflects his higher earnings. You can file for your adjustment of status using that return (only one return is required for the I864 which IS a legally binding contract with the US government). Your inlaws will in no way be beholding for your sponsorship.
