Way to fix errors before an RFE sent?

Apologies, as I swear I've seen a similar topic before but I couldn't find it by searching.

In May, my husband submitted his 485 and 765. We got both NOAs, but still no biometrics appointment. Looking back over his filing today, I realized that he only sent one set of supporting documents (pictures, etc) for the two applications, figuring I'm sure, that it was one filing. My understanding is that the 485 and 765 are immediately divided and you have to have two sets of the supporting stuff, because they get processed separately.

So, my question is: should we try and send in the pictures and stuff for his I-765 to the National Lock Box with a cover letter and copy of the NOA or do we just wait for an RFE? Do things other than initial applications sent to the lock box get passed on to the correct people?

Thanks for any advice!

It is best to wait for the RFE and send the documents with the RFE letter, which has a barcode for your file, so they easily match them. To my understanding, if you send them now to the Chicago lockbox, it would be a miracle if they are able to match your documents to your file, as your file is already at the NBC. If you receive an RFE, you would send the response directly to NBC is Missouri, so less chance to get lost at the lockbox.

Thanks for the advice! Unless someone weighs in with a good example of a preemptive submission working, I think that's what we'll do. I really imagine you're right that it would take a miracle for papers sent to Chicago to end up in our file in Missouri!

All the good advice I have ever seen agrees with what you have already heard, prepare if you like, but wait for an RFE, if it ever comes, you will be able to quickly respond. Good luck!

I'll have to disagree with the previous answers, I noticed a mistake in my I-765 as well, 2 days after I filed, I freaked out and sent an e-mail to those help e-mails they have on the USCIS website, the answer I got was to send a copy of the NOA with whatever correction you need to make plus a letter explaining what happened. The address you are supposed to send the package, is the same one you sent all of the other documents....

Hope I made myself clear, the same happened with me, so tell me if you need any more help =)

I agree with everyone who said wait for a possible RFE because the corrections may never make it to your file. Your file is now in a warehouse stacked with thousands of other files, waiting to be looked at. It would be no easy task to send someone with extra mails to add to a file somewhere in the constantly fluctuating stack.

Additionally I would like to offer that in my case and many other cases on VJ, we also sent only ONE copy of supporting documents and not separate ones for the separate applications (made the same mistake you did). No one that I know of was sent an RFE for the other copies and we got approved fine!:thumbs:

Thanks to all again! :star:

Thank you too ELW! That's great to know that people haven't been getting RFE's for not having double documentation. I'll hold off since they may not even see it as being wrong.

But good to know, raphandarrin, that they do seem to be able to connect corrections with files!! I had the whole Indiana Jones-esque massive gov't warehouse image in my head, where things go in and may never come out. So I'm really glad to know it's a bit more connected than that.
