Packet 3 Woe!!!!!

Hi Everyone

I should be dead chuffed today as I received Packet 3 from the London Embassy!

Unfortunately, I think they have sent me instructions for a K1 or K2 visa. Someone has crossed out the words 'to marry' in the title of the first page (Additional Instructions for obtaining a non - immigrant visa to marry and reside in the United States) and written 'K3' in biro underneath.

The instructions asked me for:

DS 230 Pt1

DS 156

DS 156K

DS 157

All are fine but I did read here somewhere that I do not need to include the DS 156K as that is only for K1 or K2. So I rang the embassy hotline and the guy told me that Packet 3 should be:

DS 230 Pt1

DS 156

Ds 157

DS 2000

IV15 (interview checklist for a K visa)

Now Im totally confused. The packet obviously didnt contain a DS 2000, nor a checklist to send back.

The embassy hotline man gave me a code to send an email to the embassy and ask for a correct Packet 3. But I think he's wrong. I think I need to include:

DS 230 Pt1

DS 156

DS 157

I dont want to request a new Packet 3 because of the time delay, but also because I think he is wrong, I rang twice and spoke to the same scottish guy, and I don't waant to question his understanding, but .....thats wrong isn't it???

I think I will email the embassy with the code he gave me and ask for clarification. rather than just request a new Packet 3.

Can anyone help? Especially people in the UK who have recently received their Packet 3 and what theyve been asked for!!!!

Thanks a lot

Hi Olibecca,

I am not sure about the DS2000 but you DO need to send the checklist IV15 as without it London Embassy will not offer you an appointement. You can find link for the forms here

I am going through Buenos Aires, but it sounds like the requirements for the London embassy are the same.

The checklist of all of the requirements are the same for the K1 and K3. They are both non-immigrant visas. And the title of my checklist says "K1/K3".

The DS-2000 I would ignore. He meant DS-230 Pt1.

The DS-156K, yes I was confused about this one also. But I went ahead and filled it out anyway, as a married person. There were areas where I put N/A because we are married. My thinking is, if it is not needed, they will just throw it out. It's better to send too much than not enough. But people have told me I did not need to include it, but again, better safe than sorry.

As far as the checklist, We recieved a paper that lists all of the things that you need to send into the Embassy before you receive the interview. On ours, there is a place to place a checkmark next to each item then at the end, you sign and date it. I would assume this is your instructions. And this had to be sent in with everything else. Also, we had to send n a copy of the I-134.

Hope this helps some!

Congratulations and Good Luck!!!

Hey,

I recieved my packet 3 today . It had the list of the same forms as you. I would'nt count on what the people say at the call center. last week i called to ask a question, and was told that there is no such thing as applying for a K3 when you are already married, and i'm doing it all wrong......I was spoken to so rudely, right from the start of the conversation. In the end i kinda mentioned that he needs to be trained or retrained in his job because he was giving out wrong information, and he put the phone down on me....£1.25 a min, worth it!!!
