Hi All.. I am VERY new at this. I'm just doing some research.. no wedding.. no AOS application.. bottom line.. I'm just preparing for my journey that has not begun yet..

During my research, I came across name change. I know that everybody said that they apply AOS using their married name, so I have no doubt in that (there is actually no box for maiden name, but in the back they ask for my name when I arrive in US).. but I'm wondering.. in the process of changing name.. do you change your name at the SSA office first or wait until some kind of approval from CIS??

I have read the SSA website.. and I think (not sure) that they only need marriage certificate (for proof of new name) and other maiden name proof. But then, I read that some people had a hard time because the SSA need proof for their immigration status (do we need I-485 approval??) So.. I'm a little confused of which one should come first.

My status: Came here with a student visa (F1) and I am on OPT now so I have SSN (with my 'will be' maiden name) and EAD.

Thanks for any helps or opinions or comments. I will really really appreciate them!!!!!

I filed my SSN 10 days after my arrival here in US and it was on my maiden name. 6 months after I got married, filed for my AOS, within 4 months I got my green card and went back to SS office to change it into my married name.

Ohh.. thank you thank you thank you for the reply!!!!

So.. I guess I should be able to change my SS name before I send the AOS.

Do you guys change driver license name, bank account name, and everything else right after SS name change?

(haha.. i'm making another question there)
