Requesting Police Clearance

Hi all,

I paid my IV fee bill online, it's all paid and I'm now permitted to print the barcode sheet for the DS-230. All good, it seems.

I'm still waiting for the actual DS-230 packet to come though, for the letter in it that I can use to submit to Hong Kong for the police clearance (they require something from the NVC showing it's official).

My question, for those who have requested police clearances from Hong Kong, is can I use the letter that came with the I-864 request packet? This letter has all the goodies: the beneficiary's name, the petitioner's name, the case number (and thus the Embassy (MTL).

Seems to have the goodies that Hong Kong is requesting, however, the letter doesn't specifically say "you need to get police clearance". It just says "you must submit the AOS I-864 form".

Has anyone used this form to request the police clearance? Or do I have to continue waiting for the DS-230 packet just for the letter that comes with it?

Thanks for your thoughts!!!

Hi Googles,

We went to the HK Police Station in Wan Chai and used the letter just like you described and it was no problem. HK Police definitely requires you to have a case number before they will proceed. They will send the result directly to the Consulate. They said they would notify us when it was sent, but they never did. Just assume after 4 weeks if you haven't heard anything negative that they sent it and the Consulate has it in hand.

NBI Clearnace seems to be a different matter. If the applicant is Filipina living in HK, she has to go to the Philippine Consulate and start the process for NBI. They don't require the case number. The consulate will help do the fingerprinting, etc...and then you must mail the form to the Philippines. If you are in a rush, don't send it through the postal service. We did that and it took 3 weeks for NBI to receive it. Only a few days to process it and 2 more weeks to send it back. That was the last piece of information we were waiting for before telling the consulate we were ready for our interview. In retrospect, we should have started earlier, fed ex it to a friend in Manilla so they could drop it off, or gone to the Philippines to process the NBI clearance there.

Would love to chat with you more.\

Jeff
