I am still confused whether the oath is recited at the field office or in a court house or can it be either? Sure can't bring a camera into a field office or do they make exceptions? Maybe the reason you cannot bring in a cellular phone, as most have cameras built in now.

I am sure they have their reasons for blocking cameras and cell phones, even though those reasons are way beyond my imagination. But I do enjoy taking pictures of blank walls.

A bunch of people were talking on their cell phones yesterday in the field office waiting room. No one even told them to stop.

Cell phones with cameras? Wow, did they change the regulations? Last time we were in was April 7, 2008, but that was a long long time ago. NO CAMERAS, NO CELL PHONES!

I got beeped walking in, always forget my metal that I wear, asked the guard to scan my butt as my last boss said I had lead in it, she just whacked my butt with her scanner and said no lead.

Sure there is a darn good reason for armed guards in the field offices, maybe somebody is walking out with old bent folding chairs, or heaven forbid, a paper clip.

There were signs with a cell phone and a line going through it. We always bring them into the building though, that is allowed. They just stay in my purse and my husband's pocket. But yes, on that day there were people actually using theirs. I was wondering if they'd get told not to, but they didn't.

They usually have a special "citizenship courtroom" in the field office--and cameras are (but cellphones are not) allowed there.

It's wherever your local office has arranged for space. On July 4th, a bunch of people were sworn in at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's mansion.

I know the San Francisco office normally holds its oath ceremonies at the Masonic Auditorium, a big auditorium that's used for concerts, plays, and other things, which the USCIS just rents out one day a week.

A co-worker and his wife submitted their paperwork (work based, not marriage based) last year, and his wife was just sworn in two weeks ago, while he'll be sworn in the same day Lucy gets sworn in. However, he's got the morning ceremony, while we've got the afternoon one, so we won't see each other. He said that there were 1,400 people being sworn in at his wife's ceremony.

RE :"I am still confused whether the oath is recited at the field office or in a court house or can it be either?"

In Oklahoma City ceremonies are held at the Federal Courthouse in normal circumstances, but my interviewer told me that they've been holding additional ceremonies at the USCIS Field Office this summer to deal with the backlog. My appointment is at the Courthouse, 25 July, not sure whether any additional ceremonies are still being held.

I joined this board back in late March when green card panic time arose and have to see anyone from the St. Paul area. Is this area too cold for immigrants?

Depends on where the immigrants are from; there are considerable numbers there from Winnipeg.

Plus, immigrants can always adapt within a few years to the weather.

Curious...

Yes, they are allowed and encouraged! The judge that did the ceremony in Cleveland allowed pictures to be taken with him and the new citizen and sometimes with the entire family. He called people individually and let family members take pictures. It is one of the reasons the ceremony last over 2 hours. I thought it was a nice gesture and he didn't rush anybody who wanted to take the pic.
