I distinctly remember crying while watching Bambi (anti-hunting agenda!) and Lady and the Tramp (egalitarian nonsense!). Of course, Disney has always been Commie pinko. And Old Yeller--don't get me staaated!

Yeah that Death scene in Bambi is notoriously depressing.

Have you see Watership Down - with the cartoon rabbits savaging each other?

I seem to remember slogging through the book at about age 13 and thinking it was somehow boring and depressing at the same time. I suppose I should pick it up again. I've actually avoided the movie based on the poster! Sad wabbits!

Still my favorite book to this day. I remember I did one of my 3rd grade book reports on it, and I've read it every couple of years since.

So it's better to shelter your children from any semblance of reality or emotion, to protest movies with any sort of message (which, if you would have had an open mind was all about the message of HOPE and rebuilding an Earth that wasn't being taken care of) because that will make them more well-adjusted? I cried in the movie because, well, it was emotional, but it had a happy ending. Doesn't every children's film have a climax that makes you sad, but they turn it around? It's a tried and true plot formula.

I'm shocked at how many people are offended by this movie. It's likely the supremely lazy, over-consuming population who see the movie as a giant mirror reflecting back their disgusting habits and lifestyles. I was mostly offended by the huge amount of people who sat through the movie and then left hoards of trash everywhere in the theatre. Thick skulls.

The movie is really good - and it doesn't treat kids like idiots.

Saw this today - thought it was great.

I didn't think it was particularly bleak or depressing - the characters were endearing and there was a happy ending.

I think the political subtexts are inserted by the Talk Radio folks - just to give them something to shout about (and piggy back on the publicity of a popular movie). Its an American-made movie - of course its going to have an American focus (i.e. that America is the world).

I just took my 7 yr. old to see it today also. :) They even explain in the movie how living in a low gravity environment has changed the physique. There was the part when Fred Willard, the CEO of Big 'N Large says in a press conference to 'stay the course,' but big deal, Bush didn't invent that phrase.
