shoot, I cried when I watched Toy Story 2 (the scene where Jessie sings the song about being abandoned) and I was almost 30 when that movie came out

Is there something you want to share with us, Robin?

Did anyone ever see that old movie Tarka the Otter?

A reclusive man befriends a cute otter - which is later mistakenly clubbed to death as vermin

No...was it a children's story?

It was a British kids movie from the 60's - based on a book from the 20's.

BTW - If you've not seen Watership Down you should add it to your netflix list. Its one of the darkest (and bloodiest) kids cartoons you can imagine. Even the movie poster is harsh...

Yep. That's a good example too.

I saw it years ago. Yes, very good, but one I probably wouldn't let my 7 year old watch....maybe in a few years. :)

I think Watership Down is definitely one for the older child.

That scene at the start where the prophetic rabbit imagines bulldozers ripping up the land and killing the rabbits is really chilling, esp. that bit where you see the rabbits trying to get out of the tunnel and crushing themselves to death.

I mean so many Disney films have some sort of sadness attached to them. but out of the sadness comes triumph. Thats what many Disney films are.

I cried during Bambi, Lion King, Dumbo, Beauty and the beast, Free Willy and more.

But at the end they all made me smile.

It wasn't a Disney film but remember My Girl? I cried so hard. :crying:

Durr...I'd rather have my kid read the book than see the movie. It's a bazillion times better. :)

I remember this old 80's cartoon called Remi - Nobody's boy.. a japanese animation about a boy looking for his mom, then he finds this traveling troupe with an old man and a couple of dogs, and during the cartoon the characters die one after the other, it's one of the most depressing cartoons ever..

Eww! I am not watching it anytime soon and I'm 27. :P

I don't like movies that end sad. I like some unreality in my movies please. :D

I distinctly remember crying while watching Bambi (anti-hunting agenda!) and Lady and the Tramp (egalitarian nonsense!). Of course, Disney has always been Commie pinko. And Old Yeller--don't get me staaated!

Yeah that Death scene in Bambi is notoriously depressing.

Have you see Watership Down - with the cartoon rabbits savaging each other?

I seem to remember slogging through the book at about age 13 and thinking it was somehow boring and depressing at the same time. I suppose I should pick it up again. I've actually avoided the movie based on the poster! Sad wabbits!
