I don't get it. The objections, that is. Why should all art be happy happy happy?

Or stuff for children... There are plenty of children's stories with dark themes... Watership Down anyone?

Alice in Wonderland has more dodgy subtexts than you can shake a stick at - including a crapload of drug references.

I thought it was a great movie. It had nothing to do with Americans being fat and lazy. If you failed to remember it was the entire world that was evacuated. It is an American made film but it had nothing to do with putting down America.

It is good your son came out of the movie sad because it evoked some sort of emotion, something about it made him think. Thats what movies should do.

However I didn't see it as incredibly dark or sad. Sure this is what the world could look like one day, but it wasn't preachy, it was a love story. I thought it was a beautiful film.

Yeah right! Its good that my son was sad after the movie? The evocation of sadness through a childrens movie is good? Your fckin nuts! Kids should never be put through that.

Your future is obviously dark and dim. You thrive on it! Thank god ppl like you werent around when our country was founded.

You have obviously are buyin into the we are trash syndrome!

You have strict views on what general themes and tone are appropriate for children's movies.

I guess you wouldn't let your kid watch "Old Yeller"...

do you have kids? the answer is NO! Go watch it son. Telll me how much you loved it! You havent even seen it and your making comments about it!

I don't think there is anything wrong with a kid feeling sad from watching a movie .... just the same as if he would feel happy or laugh..

yeah it would be nice to keep our children from feeling sad but that isn't realistic...

Marilyn your hapiness is on the computer. You spend more time on the computer than with the hubster! :P Its obvious ;)

Actually you might have noticed that I actually did no such thing. I said quite clearly I haven't seen it - and I made no comments about it specifically. I merely responded to your general point that evoking sadness in a children's movie is somehow inappropriate and wrong.

In short, I don't agree - and we can talk about plenty of other children's successful stories that have dark or sad themes...

Hmm...

I don't recall the last time I see a kid criticizing a movie. Heck, I don't even recall a having seen Barney, immitated Barney when they reached middle school years.

These kids learn to grow and think critically. This movie is brainless, all it does is it sparks the kid imagination. When the kid grows up, he or she will learn to think critically. It sounds like we think our kids will be clowns after graduating from high school or into college.

I agree it's pretty over the line and totally inappropriate for this thread, though not out of character for the poster.
