Hello everyone!! I love hearing about these recent approvals, it's spectacular! I just got our letter approval notice today that says our petitions have been sent to the NVC, but I am not sure how long it takes to reach the consulate once they have it...anyone know?

As for my main question, I would like to see how this military status situation works for my husband, he is 22 and has not had to serve in the military yet, but does he need an exemption notice when he goes into his interview for the visa? How does that work? Is it difficult to go and request exemption? Let me know if anyone has info., would be greatly appreciated as always!! thanks guys!!

Heather you might want to ask this in the MENA forum or we can move it over there. I am sure some of the girls there have had this issue with their SO from Egypt. :)

Jackie

Yes Jackie, if you could forward it that would be great, not exactly sure how to do that, I've only posted in the general discussion forums. thanks so much!!

When he gets his packet 3, it will say that he needs to obtain a military certificate. He will know where to go get that. Don't worry about it until Packet 3 arrives.

Your petition should only stay at NVC for about a week before it heads on over to Cairo. However, NVC can selectively and randomly pull any petition for security checks before it moves on to the Embassy. This can take a few weeks to a few months or more. NVC has no power to deny a petition.

Oups, just noticed you are a K-3. Sorry, I thought you were a k-1. It may be different for a K-3.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

thanks so much for that! I think it might be the same situation with the k3 because I checked out the timeline averages and that seems to be standard, unless it goes through Administrative Processing, which is what I think you were referring to with the random security checks. that definitely gives me knowledge though, so thank you!!

Yes, that was what I was referring to. I was told they send the petitions over in batches, but who really knows . You can also call NVC and inquire, if Im not mistaken.

I wouldnt wait until you get that far.......I have heard of a case that the Egyptian actually had to serve his due time before he could leave the country. If he can obtain a release or extention that would be great....but your fiance should inquire about this now....He should kno where to go...my husband traveled to a state called Zagazig for his document...Dont wait and then possibly recieve bad news....better to know now....This is just my opinion from what my husband has told me about the Army process in Egypt....They are pretty strict. I wish for you the best.

I am K-1........Ahmed just got his letter from the military giving him 30 days to travel. He had to go to the military

people to get it and show him his K-1 visa from the Embassy.

He is not exempt.

They look at this letter at the airport.

He didn't have to get the permission to travel letter from the military until after the visa was issued.

I don't know how things are with K-3 since you are already married.

Maybe someone else can help but your fiance should know.

If you love me, then I have everything I need

I need that too... though I'm EXEMPTED! but I guess I need to provide what proofs that I am really exempted.... I have a certificate but it's in Arabic.... What I need to know is where I should get an accurate translation that the US embassy can accept!... that what I will be looking for in the next period..... but if anyone got any info. please share with me :) Thanks
