Ok, So here is my situation and my question.

Wanting to stay ahead of the game, my wife started working on her vaccinations early. As I imagine most people are in the same boat, she did not have her vaccination records from when she was a child. So around the beginning of May, she went to the doctor to begin getting her vaccinations that were required for the visa process. And she recieved a whole host of vaccinations that were appropriate for her age.

We had discussed having children, and we both want to have children. Our ideal situatuation would be for her to get pregnant after she arrived in the US. Well, at this time, we were not trying to get pregnant, but we also were not trying not to get pregnant.

Then she had her period the 12th of May. Well, I visited Buenos Aires from May 22nd to May 27th. This is the time that she became pregnant!!!

Well, the first or second week of June, while she did not realize that she was pregnant. She returned to the doctor and received two more vaccinations. The Pneumococcal and the Varicella vacines.

Then, we got the test results from the doctor on June 23rd, positive that she is pregnant!!!

Well her doctor is concerned about the vaccinations that she received in June, after she had become pregnant. And said that we would have alot more information at the 3 month check-up. Of course, this worries my wife alot, as well as myself.

With all of the research that I have done on the internet. Here is the information that I have found regarding receiving vaccinations while pregnant or within a month before becoming pregnant:

Doctors say there is no problem with the vaccines that are dead vacines. The ones that they are concerned about are the live vaccines. Varicella being one of them.

However, this is only a concerne of the doctors because they feel that there is the POSSIBILITY of a problem. There have actually never been a reported problem to mother or child from receiving a vaccine while being pregnant or within a month of becoming pregnant.

So it is my take that there is really nothing for us to be concerned about with my wife receiving the vaccinations. And this is what I am telling my wife.

So, my question would be: To anyone who has maybe been in this situation, or has more information, or maybe there are even some doctors out there that know better than I do. Is my research pretty accurate, or should I be more concerened about this than I am?

Thanks for any information!!

i wouldnt go crazy just yet... i mean... if you're worried about infection and all from a vaccine, i'd say you're wife would have to be a super ill/bad health type of women with extremely low immunes system and STILL an act of god to disturb the preganancy at such an early age. The womans womb believe it or not protects the baby from drugs, many diseases and even alchohol for quite some time throughout the pregnancy ESPECIALLY in the early stages.

Congrats on the pregnancy

For a K-3 visa there are no required vaccinations and they can be delayed until adjustment of status application....

YMMV

Thanks, And I realize that they are not required for the K3. But we are following two paths, the K3 and CR1. So I am in a little different situation. Also, on the packet 3 for the K3 that was sent to us by the embassy. On the part about the Medical exam, they state "Do not show up to the medical exam without your up to date vaccination records"

Also, it does not matter at this point. She is now pregnant and received the vaccinations before she knew. But thank you for your response.

And at this point I am not overly concerned from my research. Just trying to get more information. Thanks

Congrats, my wife is also preg but 8 1/2 weeks. We just started the visa proccess a few weeks ago and its going to be close to her due day and the approval...or so we hope. I researched the vacs and found that preg woman can skip the vacs till after birth and get them done in the US.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/in...cinations_are_1

What do I do if the applicant does not have a vaccination record?

The panel physician will work with the applicant to determine which vaccinations the applicant may need to meet the requirement.

What if there is a medical reason for the applicant to not receive a listed vaccination?

Only a physician can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for the applicant, given the applicant’s age, medical history, and current medical condition. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician.

Yes, I had read that! But it was a little unexpected. And she received everything just before she got pregnant and two after.

But thanks and congratulations to you too!!!!

Hi everyone,

First of all, also big congrats to the couples with a baby on the way! (I hope we will be next soon  )

For the rest, an update after my question a few posts above.

I just had my medical, and I asked the doc what if I get the vaccines I still need now, and we get pregnant, say, in September. He told me since one of the vaccines is a live vaccine (or something like that), it would be best to wait three months from getting the shots before getting pregnant.

(Steve, I did not get into what if one gets pregnant before, but after reading all your previous posts, you seem to have done quite a bit of research about it already.)

Hope this info helps some other folks.

Cat

PS for the rest nothing noteworthy to mention about the medical. Very laid back doc, didn't really ask me anything, just read the checklist I had already filled out, weighed me, took my blood pressure and wrote down my height, took some blood (I already had x-rays done) and that was it. But I assume the exams can vary depending on what doc you get.
