We're still worring about the cost of the prius, but, don't seem to grasp the bigger picture on oil consumption. We are literally financing a foreign country that dictates the way America runs our own economy. Is that good? Should we control our own economy, or have a foreign source control our economy?

The only way to stop that is by completely moving away from oil. Which can happen through the use of technologies such as hydrogen, nuclear power etc.

In this instance the government needs to direct the free market into the right direction. By means of grants, initiatives and deadlines. Similar to switching from analogue to digital television.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The Prius is still ridiculously priced, even at $4 gas. I'm not paying to feel good, I'll let the saps with money to burn do that.

We've learned our lesson with novelty cars. Next time I'm buying something practical.

Beyond the price-tag, why don't they make the car more attractive? It's by far one of the most non attractive cars on the road. Nissan even had the nerve to change the Sentra's body style, which looks very similar to the Prius. Needless to write (but I will) that both cars just don't set off that oh gotta have it look to me. If it were not for the fuel efficiency of the Prius. I doubt that people would actually buy it.

My husband works at Toyota...they currently have a longggggg waiting list for the Prius. All purchased at MSRP. I do agree, I think it's ugly but people don't seem to care. They sell like hotcakes in California.

True! Ironically, last week, the news actually covered a story, which had a feature on the Prius and how folks are on longgggg waiting list to purchase them. Just think how many more they would sell if it were a more attractive vehicle because it comes with a lot of nice features inside, even beyond it being a fuel efficient hybrid.
