I woke up at 2 in the morning in a cold sweat suddenly worrying about this- stayed up for 3 hours putting all of our paperwork together. It is about 3 inches thick. Please tell me what you all think:

-copies of his green card and passport

-copy of our daughters birth certificate

-copy of letter addressed to us both from state senator congratulating us on birth of daughter (silly I know but it has our joint address on it)

-copies of 2006 and 2007 joint taxes

-copy of letter informing us of economic stimulus check

-copies of joint savings account (2 years worth)

-copes of 2 joint checking accounts (2 years worth)

-copy of deed of house (it is only in my husband's name though)

-copy of homeowners insurance in both our names

-copy of my 401(k) paperwork listing husband as sole beneficiary

-copy of husband's 401 (k) showing me as sole beneficiary

-copy of husband's FAA license (to show address)

-copy of letter from insurance company showing husband as subscriber and me and Alice as dependents

-copy of previous health insurance showing same

-several EOB's

-copy of my social security statement (to show address)

-copy of his social security statement (to show address)

-copy of my voter registration card (to show address)

-copy of waste bill in my name (for address)

-copies of car insurance in both names (we own our cars so no loans)- 2 years worth

-copies of Time Warner cable bill in my name (phone and cable)- 2 years worth

-copies of electric/gas bill in his name- 2 years worth

-copy of a letter from electric/gas company stating I am allowed access to account

-copy of credit card bills to show address (2 years worth)

-copy of letter showing I am authorized user on husband's credit card

-affidavit from my father (still waiting for my mother to do hers)

-copies of flight itinerary for two family vacations to the UK one last year, one this year

-daughter's christening information from church

-personal letter from sister-in-law addressed to us both discussing planning daughter's christening and party in UK

-photos of family together

-personal letter addressed to both from father-in-law discussing how happy he was with birth of our daughter

-hand made anniversary card from 8 year old daughter (husband's step-daughter) stating she loves us both

-several cards addressed to us both congratulating us on birth of daughter

Sometimes I look at it all and think it's ridiculous over-kill...then I look at the other posts on this forum and I get scared. I love my husband, we have a family together- I'm petrified of some nameless, faceless person in an office going through our personal papers deciding whether we've proven to them our family can stay together or not! Anyway, even though 90 days was up the end of June, we are going to England to see my husband's family and so that he can be the best man in his friend's wedding on July 15, so none of this will be mailed out til August 2 when we return. Green card expires September 26. We are applying to the VSC, so even though it would probably be ages til he gets the biometrics appt, we aren't going to take the risk that it comes in while we are away! Thanks in advance for any input!!!

Hello,

I'm no expert but I think you have way more than enough! The main things are your joint tax returns and daughter's birth certificate, plus the bills etc.. in JOINT names and addressed to you both. I'm not sure if adding things with only one of your names on it helps - maybe someone else can help calrify this.

I put in loads of things in just one or the other's name just to show the address. Where I live in upstate NY, our utility company won't put two names on an account. Also the same with Time Warner- I've asked for both names on the bill and told they can't do that. Unfortunately, the house is owned by my husband and I am not on the deed. This is for purely financial reasons but if anyone out there thinks that will be the make or break thing, we can add me to the deed without any problem??

Your list is fine. I wouldn't give a full 2 years' worth of any bill/statement, I'd give a sample spanning the length of the marriage (not just the 2 years since you received your 2 year GC).

I wasn't added to the deed to our house, and sent in various things showing I was at the address, and it went ok.

Good luck, you'll be fine.

I agree with Cassie. Also, I found it impossible to get my name on bills too - I wonder why that is? I included joiunt utility bills and statements that spanned our marriage also, though didn;t include every single one.

You have loads of evidence, so I wouldn't worry (though I am in the same position as you so I can't talk!).

Good luck!

Thank you for your input. It alleviates my mind a bit. We were living in England for part of our married life- other joint accounts were located in the UK. I could give them that stuff if I get an RFE but I didn't really think they'd be relevant. I only really started saving things after we applied for the green card 2 years ago. I thought 2 years worth might be a bit of overkill- I can go through and pull 5 or 6 examples of each to make it less fat!

Thanks so much- I do feel a bit less nervous!!!

Include some of the England stuff. :) They want to see evidence of you co-mingling your assets and liabilities over the life of your marriage. Like I said before, just give a sample overview.
