I-485 a?

I was just researching on the forms that i will need to send out after my girlfriend and i get married under the vwp, will it include the I-485 a? This form is $1000 on its own! And in working out everything my girlfriend and i did not consider this. What is it for, will it be needed? etc..

Any help you can give would be great,

Yes sorry, i am from the UK and we are to be married under the VWP, unfortunate circumstances of my girlfriend's father's death make it the right option, but what is with this form?

Never heard of it...

I filed like you and my package included:

I-130 and everything that petition includes

I-485 and everything it includes.

The total price is $1,365 approx ($1010 for the I-485 and $355 for the I-130 approx)

Plus about $300 for the medical that you will have to have done.

It is deifinitely not cheaper than any other option, and you have to pay for the petition, application and medical pretty much all at once.

But I have never heard of I-485a, I didn't file it.

To put you out of your misery.. No, you do not need the form. You really should try to understand exactly what you are doing/filing. The guides are a great way to start and searching for similar cases to yours would also be helpful. <Not trying to be mean, but these are legal documents that you will be responsible for.>

I'm just saying that these are legal documents that you are signing. We don't know you, we can only go by the facts that we were given. If you left something out (unintentionally) of your story and you should be ticking a question yes, instead of no.... we can't help you with that. By reading and understanding you could save yourself a headache in the long run.

But yes, I do understand the need for reassurance. I was once in the same position as you.

Quoting from the instructions to Supplement A to Form I-485:

"NOTE: If you are applying to adjust as the spouse or unmarried minor child of a U.S. citizen or the parent of a U.S. citizen child at least 21 years of age, and if you were inspected and lawfully admitted to the United States other than in C-1 or S nonimmigrant status, you do not need to file this form."

If you meet these conditions, then you don't need Supplement A. All the information you need to fill out the forms is in the instructions to the forms and on the USCIS website, use the instructions as the main source and the VJ guides as a supplement help, not the other way around.
