Ok so I searched and searched and couldn't find. and after reading another thread or 5 here I've become quite paranoid about this. I seem to remember alex (my SO) saying somethign abotu being fingerprinted at one point entering into the united states. He was never told he was being denied ro anything, he was just fingerprinted. Then he came to visit, and went back to France with no problem. are we going to need a waiver because he was fingerprinted the one time? Anyone been in this situation before? No arrest, no denial, just fingerprinted?

I believe that all non-citizens are fingerprinted on entry to the US. If it was just a routine procedure then there would be nothing to worry about.

This was implemented sometime after 9/11 - initially just those with visas, then later extended to VWP travellers.

The initial mystery that attends any journey is: how did the traveller reach his starting point in the first place?

ok so little explanation on my custom things. on my first trip to the US at the custom they wanted to recheck my bags and my identity. everything goes well.

on my second trip I didn't had a re-check but they took my fingerprints and a picture of me. after that they let me enter the US.

and on my last trip I was re-check again cause they tought I was staying too long. so I had to explain why and if I had money and other stuf bla bla bla. well I had to lie cause I didn't had a lot of money but I said I had lol.

I'm sure we don't have to worry about it cause I'm ve seen otehr people being fingerprinted and recheck. it's just a security thing.

Not exactly--all VWP travellers are FP'd the first time (stored electronically) so they can then "sign out" of the US to prove no overstay.

For Canadians, no change as of the moment.

Not sure about those who need visas.

Fair points, and we should note that it still amounts to a matter of routine for a French citizen on a VWP visit.

Those who need visas and have them are certainly FP'd - I don't know about those who need visas but don't have them. Seems a safe bet that they'd be FP'd, I guess.
