Affidavits?

I was reading up on affidavits as i am going to need some sent from back in the United Kingdom to put together in my AOS here in the US. However i noticed that you need to sign them in front of Notary Public i think it is? I do not think this exists in England, will everything they put into the document in England, apart from this as it is sent over still be accepted? I'm very confused on these now, i thought they were simple!

I think different countries may have different definitions of a notarized document. You may have to write an email to the US Consulate in the UK and ask about it.

Well i am aware they are $0 to $5 here, and i phoned my mother asking for an affidavit, she agreed to write one but said she must go to a solicitor to do it, and in doing so it will cost at least 50 GBP. $100 USD. Is this correct, cant she just go to the post office like here in the US?

Also how many affidavits are going to be enough to prove my intentions of travelling home upon entry? I will have 2 or 3 sent from the UK, and i can get 2 or 3 completed here in the US from family members stating they new of my return home and that the marriage was decided upon spontaniously last week!

Personally, I can tell you that my interview officer didn't pay much or even any attention to the letters sent by our friends, family members etc, the only letter we notarized was a the letter from my wife's uncle that says we are renting his house w/o the need of a formal contract.

The rest of the letters were not and he didn't seem to be puzzled by it.

We do have notary publics in Mexico as well, but the fees are more expensive, not just 5-10 dlls like it is here. In case you really want some notarized letters, ask people from here to write it and notarize it and also have those from the UK w/o the notary stamp maybe you can add the envelope from the UK to make it seem more truthful.

So signed letters from friends in the UK that have not been notarized are not a problem then, and do help your case? We are obviously going to get my mother in law to be to write an affidavit that is notarized explaining that we are paying rent in her home without a contract. Is this a good idea?

Well, we even turned it letters from people here in the US w/o a notary stamp and he didn't say anything. Of course it matters if you add letters explaining the veracity of your relationship, notarized or not. My wife's uncle is a PhD working for a university and he wrote in on his letterhead to make it look more important hehe and notarized it, he is also the owner of the house where we live at.

It is a good idea to do that.
