EAD and SSN

Once in the US and married and having received the EAD, would that entitle one to work anywhere in the US, I.E - Can seek a regular working job, such as in a bank or a store and doesnt need a job that is green card approved?

And how long after becoming a permanant resident will it take to obtain a social security number for work and for college?

Yes, once you get the EAD you can work anywhere in USA. I haven't come across any workplace that doesn't accept a EAD. The only exception I can think of are jobs that require one to be a US Citizen, like the Federal government.

You can get a social security number two weeks after arriving in USA, even before you apply for AOS (green card). However, if you fail to apply for a SSN before 15 days of your I-94 expiring (for K1 applicants, that is within 75 days I believe), you will have to wait for a granted green card to apply for SSN. The moment you receive your green card, you can go ahead and file for SSN (it usually arrives by mail 1-2 weeks after applying for it).

I am marrying very soon under the VWP which is why i ask what the proceedure would be with the SSN. But i know when i send out the AOS right after, the I-765 goes with it. What about the SSN, is that once the Green Card is approved?

Yes, I think in your case, you can get the SSN once the green card is approved. But I don't have experience with your circumstances (VWP), so hope someone more knowledgeable will add their comments.

You need to apply for the SSN as soon as you get the EAD card. Even though you are authorized to work as soon you have the EAD card, you might run into trouble getting hired without an SSN or at least having applied for one.

You can get the SSN when the EAD is approved; you don't have to wait for the green card approval. EAD should be 60 - 90 days from submission (if it is not received within 90 days make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office). The green card can take much longer.
