We got the CR1 fixed

For those that don't know us my husband came here about a year and a half ago. Because of an initial denial, by the time my husband got his visa we had been married for over 2 years, so should have gotten the IR1. They screwed up at the embassy and gave him the CR1 instead of the IR1. We had heard that they will correct this at the point of entry, but they flat out refused and told him to go back to Morocco to fix it....jerks!

Anyway I had heard that this is time consumming, and due to the length of time it took to get his visa, and just plain due to being tired of this process I put off filing the I-90 to have this corrected. I finally got around to it in May of 08. He got the IR1 a few days ago. It took about 5 or six weeks!

I'm not quite sure why it was done so quickly, but who am I too argue!

Now no more immigration ####### for another year for his citizenship.

Too bad Sarah isn't still around. I know she would expect him to have been out the door by now due to the differences in our age, but we are still as happy as ever. Sorry, just wanted to gloat a little...lol

Anyway just hoping the best to all out there that your wait time will soon be over. And especially to those that have been denied, I hope our story gives you hope and encouragement.

I think you mean he has the 10 year green card, not a new visa. What did the Texas Service Center (in Mesquite) have to do with this?

If you have an immigrant visa, you qualify for a green card. You don't need the visa corrected. You just need a 10 year green card. Just what is it the service center did for you? The pronouns "this" and "it" were never connected to a noun like "visa" or "green card" just "error". You said you got the wrong visa but after US entry it's the green card that matters, not the visa.

You say he got the IR1 a few days ago. That makes no sense. Isn't it the 10 year green card he got a few days ago?

It really is simple to understand. He was eligible for the IR1 visa. They gave him the CR1 instead. We sent in his greencard that states "CR1" on it and they gave him the green card that states "IR1". Does this help to clarify?

It clarifies but seems like much ado about nothing, if the green card was good for 10 years. So, he didn't get an IR1 visa, ever. You just got IR1 printed on the green card because he should have gotten an IR1. What's done is done.

congrats on getting the error corrected in a timely manner! i wish i could say it was that easy for us. for some reason this whole immigration process has been pure h$ll! but we have made it so far---5 years to be exact!

after 3 months of AP (not to mention a year of waiting due to being denied a visa the first time due to consular error) i email casa and asked them to please be sure my husband gets the IR1 since we had been married by that time 2 1/2 years---ummm did they do it? no.

husband arrives in Detroit Aug 06 and at POE it was ignored as well.

filed the I-90 in sept 06....recieved another 2 yr card in April 07. they ignored my letter and proofs!

called the local office to make an appointment to find out what can we do. drive all the way there and i am told to come back in 30 days as the officer needs to request our file and so she can read it and find out what i am talking about. ?????hello. i had all of our documents with us, did she want to see any of them? um, no.

we make another appointment and go back. we see a different officer who says it was all so simple, the other officer didnt need our file. going in circles. by now i was a bit ticked off. i mention that i have called their 800 number and been here and still i have no results of an error that was made almost a year ago. he informs me calling the 800 number is useless and not to bother with it. i mention it is your dept that suggests we call this number. there is no other way to get information except to call that number your dept set up! grrrrr....

he tells me to send in another request to Texas and i did. he did tell me that i would not be allowed to file AOS because an error was made. that was good news, i guess.

still waiting. 2 yr card will expire in Aug 08. i call the 800 number and they transfer me to a REAL live officer! she says she will put in an inquiry since it is past the normal processing times. i am to call back in a month. i will be calling tomorrow.

talk about run arounds! my husband is worried about his visa expiring next month. the last officer i spoke to said it wont. sure.

so the saga continues. stay tuned....lol

once we have that 10 year card we are DONE!!!!!!!!!! he has one year and he can file to become a citizen!!!!!!!

lol...we are still going strong too despite our age difference. i think all this immigration ####### made us stronger. we are inseparable when not working. life is wonderful.

if you have been denied a visa---keep faith that you can fight and get your spouse/fiancee here! many of us have been there and are proof it can be overcome!!!

for those with other immigration issues---hang on and fight your way through the maze of immigration bureaucracy and you will suceed.

Hey Chi, its great to hear from you. I remember you telling us that you were really struggling with this, so I was extremely stressed by sending in his greencard. We went into the local office and they said to send it in, and when we got the I-797 to take it in and they would stamp it in case we needed some form of proof that he is here legal. We never even go around to it.

I am also happy to hear that you 2 are going strong. Again the assumption that if their is an age difference then it is for a visa is squashed. I am sure it happens, but to assume that all men from MENA are looking for a young wife is ludacrous.

Don't we all have age differences? I wonder how many of us have dated somebody with our same birth date. I once dated a woman with the same month and day of birth but four years younger. Whether an age difference will play a role in a visa decision depends on multiple factors, no matter how wide or direction the separation. Let's not over-generalize.

Again, you have no idea what we are talking about, and unless you want to take the time to go back about a year ago or so in the MENA forum then don't stress about it. VW and Chi understand completely what I am saying. This was originally posted in the MENA forum, and it should have stayed since my comment relates to those in there that can follow what I am talking about.
