Searching for an excellent Digital SLR

We are looking at several models of nikon and canon for a digital SLR camera..

Anybody who owns one? Care to give us recommendations/personal reviews with specific models? We are looking forward to hearing from you. What are the cons of owning that specific model?

My wife wants to upgrade from Kodak easyshare to Nikon D80 but we're still looking for something better. We'll decide on the budget later but preferably not higher than $1,500, including the basic lens (30-150mm).

She prefers excellent macro, flexible ISO, burst, short shutter lag time features, stability/anti-shock or vibration, and will be using the cam for moving objects (like catching the waves, speeding cars..), macro shots mostly, distant focusing and panning..

Your probably looking at the entry level model. Which is either the Nikon D80 or Canon XSi. Each of those have a couple of predecessors that can be purchased for a bit less than the current models.

Both Canon and Nikon are very good. It usually comes down to a matter of personal preference.

At least with Canon, the stock kit isn't known to have a good lens with it. You are probably better off buying just the body and lens separately.

Canon Digital Rebel Xsi and Nikon D80 bodies are both at about $750. Lenses vary in price depending on quality. Your probably best finding a general purpose lens and a separate macro lens. I would probably look for a telephoto lens too.
