I've deliberated about what notice i will give to work, i am meant to give 4weeks notice minimum so they can cover my sites.

But if i have an interview in Feb/March and give in my notice based on that i will lose out on our bonus!! If you leave/hand in your notice before Feb (end) you get nada even though bonus is based on 2008 figures! If it was only a piddly bonus i wouldn't stress to much but its over $6000 which will come in very handy!!

Sooooo I may not give any notice  Waiting a further 4weeks will be a killer, i may give them 2weeks notice...out of the goodness of my heart :jest:

I was going to ask this myself..WHY would you all even care how much notice you give?? YOU are moving to america and I doubt the employer here will be calling long distance to your job to check your references LOL...

I can see a week or two but 4 weeks??

Go be with your sweeties folks..you waited a LONG time for it!!!

HUGS ALL!

HAHA you're a bad influence :innocent:

My only drawback is I may want to work for the same co in the US so I might have to give some notice but then would they really call to check..... hmmmmm

We're not so much worried about giving approval so he can have good job references once he's in the states. We're worried about the possibility that something will go horribly wrong and he'll be denied at his interview- leaving him jobless and referenceless. Probably just needless fretting!

Um, by approval I mean notice. Can you see where my mind is at?!?!

hmmm that's a good question. I guess that it doesn't matter but my fiance a big one on following the rules, making plans waaaaaaaay in advance, following the plan, not diverting from the plan... We discussed the 3 month thing awhile ago and just built it in our "timeline". It's hard for me to imagine that they'd really ask him to stay for 3 months after he gives notice. I suppose that he has to wrap up projects with clients and they need time to find a replacement. I think a month is reasonable - maybe 2 if they really need it. He plans on giving notice once he gets the visa after the interview.

Just a thought...i have them every so often :D

Do USCIS have tomorrow off for Veterans Day??

I'm going to venture to say that yes they do. Most gov't offices observe it.

It is a day off for them ..another one. Wouldn't mind so much if we were seeing much action out of VSV

I'm not giving notice until after the interview and I have an approval. I haven't told anyone I work with a thing.

Be a fine thing to wind up jobless in this economy at my age.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Regardless of the "rule," most people (companies, bosses, etc) are VERY understanding when it comes to families. If your SO explains, giving a shorter notice, that it's because of his visa approval and his intent to go marry you, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't burn his bridges at his workplace. If it's a contract, even that can be negotiable under circumstances like this. I managed to get out of my teaching contract (I left at midterm) by explaining what the job was doing to me and my SO at the time. So, don't rule anything out before at least asking!
