Thanks Cham and Stevew158!! Looks like i will be getting ssn before getting married! :star:

Terri and Seb: wow! not long to go till you see your SO. I hear that Stonehenge is quite amazing to see. Very mystical.

Yeah, we're really excited. I was there for nearly a whole year and that's the one place on my list I just never made it to.

About this SSN business, our situation is a little complicated. Sebastian lived in the states while he was a kid, his dad had a work visa here for 5 years, and for whatever reason they gave him a SSN. We've done a little research and it looks like they only offered the dependents of people on that particular visa social security numbers in the state of California, and they've since stopped this practice.

I don't know if he still has the card or not, but should I assume he's safely in the system and we get to skip that step? I'm sure I'll call them anyhow, it's just a weird set of circumstances.

The worst part of that story? Sebastian's parents gave birth to his younger sister while they were in the states. He lived here for 5 years (ages 8-13...really important growth and development years), very much identifies himself as part American, and his sister who lived here for a few months has an American passport and could move here at a whim if she wanted to.

Grrrr!

From what i understand ssn are kind of like fingerprints. once you have one they are yours forever. but i could be totally wrong on that! so yes, it would definitely pay to call them and find out for sure. :star:

Nothing this week? Well Obama did promise to bring change... Looks like he did already.

lol...has nothing to do with obama....just the system besides just because no one has been accepted on igors there are probably people being accepted not a member all over the place....

Are you sure about that ? ;):D

ya i am pretty sure about that...

This process sucks!!! Everything seems to be going so slow right now and i hate it. I miss my love sooo much. I am hating every moment of this...it gets worse and worse. i am miserable every day and i want to MOVE OUT OF THIS HOUSE. things just cannot get any worse right now well im sure they could but dammit im sick of dealing with all of this ####### that keeps coming my way. I want Johny back here, that alone will help dramatically.

he also had his ssn and he only left back in june so i am always wondering what he has to do if he has to reapply or what i have no idea i wonder if there is a number i can call to find out. and i am still wondering about the whole temporary workers visa thing if he has to ask for it or if they automatically will give it to him or what because we really need him to be working cuz things are really hard right now....and i want to get married in VEGAS! But unless someone offers to pay for it, its not going to happen i would rather us have money to make a nice home for us...

so if anyone knows anything about the workers visa or the ssn i would take any advice and im pretty sure i asked before but im asking again...hehe

I just replied about the temporary work stamp in another thread. LOL! :star:

I wouldn't pin your hopes too much your SO on getting one. This is what it says from the faq here on vj.

5.2)...What happens when we get off the plane?

A..You will queue up with all the others going through Immigration. You might be directed to a waiting area until the other passengers are gone. Your sealed envelope will be opened, your passport will be stamped, you will have the I-94 form (the white I-94) put in it (do not lose this!), you might get a 90 day work authorization or EAD Employment Authorization Document (see note). In early 2001, it was becoming increasingly uncommon to obtain any work authorization at a POE. As of Dec 2003 the only airport that still (and rarely) issues Work stamps is JFK. The officer may ask a few questions, and may say "Welcome to the United States". It doesn't take long. You leave the Immigration area, and then proceed through Customs.

All he can do really is ask for one at POE and see if they say yes or no. Sucks i know!

welcome to the club!! i stumble around in the dark half the time over this whole process!! lol!! :star:

You said that he already has a ssn ? It may pay for you to phone a ssn office and explain everything to them. He may not need another one if he already has one. In general, from what i have read here on vj, it takes around 90 days to receive work permit (ead - 1-765)

Things are quiet here, too. Just waiting for next month so I can finally visit the UK! We've made arrangements to have engagement photos taken in London and Oxford so today I bought a pretty gown for the occasion. We also booked a trip to Stonehenge while I'm there. December 27th can't come soon enough...

Stonehenge is about 30 minutes drive from where I am, very eeerie late afternoon this time of year as dusk falls!!

Enjoy! :D :D

As almost a matter of routine - at JFK - CBP stamps the passport with the temporary EAD - if they don't automatically, you can ask.. and now who should i call about the social security number???One a SSN/Card is issued, it is issued for life (never expires, don't have to activate/re-activate it - nothing further needs to be done - unless the card is lost, in which case a replacement should be ordered. and how long then will it take to get working visa the permanent one???Once you apply for AOS (and presumably EAD and/or AP) - which will be after you get married - the EAD takes anywhere from 60-90 days to get - it's good for 1 year and is renewable should the AOS/Green-Card not get issued in time. and does he need his SSN before he can apply for one???No - there is no SSN/Card requirement at all. rah im so longs im sorry this whole things is just frustrating and i have no idea what im doing/

Congrats to you. Be sure to keep us updated on the next leg of your journey.

I've been busy and distracted with my internship and classwork, so I haven't had time to worry about when NOA2 comes. It doesn't much make a difference until we have our other paperwork, anyway. My tax transcripts finally arrived, and I realized I had accidentally requested 2004-2006 instead of 2005-2007... so I have to request the missing year. And my father (my co-sponsor) hasn't requested his yet. And Andy is still waiting on his military records and police report to make it to him (several more weeks on the latter since we found out late in the game it takes a month to get them).

Anxiously awaiting Andy's job interview Tuesday. I'll drop a note to let you know the result -- I'm really hoping he lands it. We might still be able to have a small ceremony if he can save up a little money.
