AWW we do understand..Sometimes I wish kai would have NEVER gone back on that plane. Sometimes I wish we would have gone another route. Sometimes I hate my old boss because HAD I not been laid of with a few others I would have had him here sooner.

BUT then I think I am happy I even got to afford to file and that time is passing by fast. I am thankful that this man waited for so long like he has....Hell I am just lucky to have this incredible creature in my life

Hugs to all!!!

Yay my timeline finally moved upward instead of backwards and I no longer have that ugly December word in it anymore....keep moving up keep moving up!!! I miss my love sooo much...hopefully he will be back in four more months....

I have a question...my fiance got a social security number when he was going to school here...I imagine he will still have the same one when he comes back. Was wondering if he could use that in applying for a job or if he has to wait three months or whatever for the working papers?

I would 'think' that he would still have to wait for ead before he can apply for a job even if he has a ssn. I think anyone with k1 can apply for a ssn before ead is issued but still can not work, so i would think the same would apply in his case.

someone on the MAIN k1 forum may be able to answer the question precisely :)

btw, my timeline has moved up too.. woo hoooo!! hope it continues in that direction ;)

Unfortunately a SSN is not work authorization. Your SO could work with his SSN if you get a work authorization stamp on his I-94 at POE until the I-94 expires. After that expiration date, it's illegal until he has EAD. The average seems to be ~2 months right now after applying. So, basically you're only ahead on having to get a SSN for your SO, which might give him a couple extra weeks to work on his I-94 stamps (since it takes awhile for K1's to be added to the system in order to apply for their SSN's).

I wish for all of our sakes that there was a way around that waiting for EAD. It really sucks when you're in a financial situation like mine!

My timeline bumped way up too, but I'm not getting excited over it since I see people in May still waiting. I can't give into the ups and downs of estimates or I'll simply go insane!

Is anyone else worried about the non-USC's job prospects?

As a non USC, not being able to work for at least 3 months IS a worry to me. Not only for financial reasons but also because i am so used to working all the time that i really don't know how i will manage to NOT work for that long. It may sound silly but true.

At first i will probably not be able to drive either. So I am going to have to find ways to occupy my days. I'd like to maybe do volunteer work but not sure what organisations there are in the US.

Of course i will also be keeping an eye out for jobs for when i do get my EAD.

And as far as jobs go. I really don't care what i do at first.. work in a fast food place, wash dishes. Just anything really. As long as i can get "A" job at first and have an income and get some US job experience.

Very great ideas -- especially the volunteer work. Having a reference to call is so important for getting hired, and volunteering definitely offers that, plus something on your resumé for a lengthy period of time. You might check out the local Humane Society/SPCA or local animal shelter. They pretty much always need help, and I can say from personal experience that it's very gratifying to help save an animal's life.

Thanks for your response, it was a big AH HA for me!

it wouldnt let me edit my message...anywayz...

when is it okay to apply for the EAD in order to work???

I hope that he is stamped and able to work for the 90 day period. does he have to ask for that or do they just do it if they want to?

i really need him to come back and work to help me out and he wants to. there is already a place here that said too bad he had to go back to haiti or they would hire him. he did his internship there so i was hoping that they would hire him when he comes back. because come summer i am not going to be able to work at all except maybe on weekends because of my schools clinical schedule and same with fall. so from summer on until spring of 2010 i am not going to be able to work....

So why are people in may still waiting to get their noa2? are they in vermont or california??? I just hope we have to wait no longer then november....i cant take this much longer i miss my boo....and i am not a patient person at all!

Fantastic Idea!

I was also going to say The salvation army needs volunteers as well. St vincent DePaul is wonderful along with the YWCA or YMCA. Even the libraries need volunteers!!

(not long now all till 2cd part and let us pay that NONE of us get snagged along the way!)

love you guys!

Not worried here. I finished a BS a few years ago and won't start a grad program until probably Fall 09 so we won't be rich but my paycheck will cover things.

It would be cool to have a second income though...

NOA 2. Really?

We're a little worried about it. Luckily his family is giving him a very generous amount of money to help with expenses while we wait for the EAD. We're stuck in a pretty small city after we get married until I finish my degree, so he likely won't be able to work in the field he wants to for a year. But hey, a job is a job and a reference is a reference! I told him since he's moving to America for me, after I graduate he can choose the state and city we live in (I'll be a nurse, so I can pretty much get a great job anywhere) so I doubt it will be a problem in the long run.

Well, it makes me feel better than I'm not the only one concerned. When I quit my teaching job 3 years ago, and later went for another degree, I certainly didn't think I'd end up bringing a fiancé to the US. I've got my own job hunt to do in a few months when I graduate (again), and then we'll have to move again to where ever the market takes us. Up till my divorce, I always had some sort of safety net financially, so this is all new and scary for me. I just have to keep hoping that it all works out, because putting off Andy coming for a year isn't an option for my unhappy heart!
