Congrats to all the new weddings, interviews, etc...

okay and the fun begins i have a few questions for everyone or whoever wishes to answer them.

number one...where can i find a good cover letter?

number two...do i need to send all of the support papers in with the application? i read somewhere that someone didnt, but im pretty sure we need to and im working on getting that stuff together now.

number three...certified check or money order?

time to go broke again!

i have a cover letter if you need me to email it over?? Just PM me if you want it.

Support papers?? do you mean the affidavit?? As yes that must be sent with the application.

Check or money order...either is fine, whichever you're more comfortable with.

You need a copy of the NOA2 (I-797) with the application.

Everything you need is on the cover letter i have...

We're not entirely sure. Between the flight, AOS fee (hoping to be granted a waiver, but no guarantee), living expenses, health insurance, etc for while he's not allowed to work (and while I'll most likely still be looking and barely scraping by with my job at Michael's), I figure he's going to need 3 or 4,000 dollars. The work days there tend to be long (10-12 hour shifts), so hopefully that will happen sooner than later. He won't have much expenses to speak of. I really hate all this money worry #######. It's hard for me, as until I divorced while enrolled in school I was never remotely in any financial worry before. And I could tell that Andy was trying to keep his spirits up, but he definitely is struggling with the concept of moving today out of his apartment but still not getting to come be with me.

Sounds brutal. It seems like a lot of people just put AOS off but if you wanna work, I guess that isn't an option.

Maybe you guys should just go for it once you can afford the flight?

NOA 2. Really?

Beans & rice, raman and frosted flakes? :innocent: I hope the time goes fast for you guys. With the economy like it is, this seems like a rough time to get anything done.

I feel a little like I'm the bad guy, but it's not like that. Right now my job isn't even covering my own expenses, and I have no guarantee of how many more hours they'll give me when I'm done with school in a few weeks. It may or may not be sufficient to cover my own rent, food, etc. I have even less guarantee of finding a design job in a reasonable time period given the current economy, so I can't assume anything there. But I have to have a little left in the bank for when I do because I'm going to have to move for any job I take, as there is nothing in this little town (which pales in comparison to my student loan debt). There's nothing left to cut, we're both eating cheap, not buying anything except essentials, and I'm stuck with above-average rent for a student because of my cats.

Given those conditions, I think it'd be irresponsible for me to bring Andy here right now when he's not allowed to work immediately. It sucks, but this is why I've been whining about his job-search difficulties since he left here in September -- he and I both knew we were going to need that money when the visa came. Going to school FT and working PT and putting together a portfolio has nearly killed me, and it still doesn't put us in a position where I can support him right now. That's just how it is, and I'll have to keep feeling jealous every time I see everyone posting their wedding notes and filing AOS information.

Sorry /rant. I'm doing the best I can.

It's cool. I don't know how anybody pulls this off working and going to school so you're doing better than me. I had to work full time graveyards and go to school during the day part or sometimes full time to finish my BS degree. That pretty much doomed my past relationships to a few months at best.

I have a regular job now and we're still being tight with money; we've just been lucky to have some breaks go our way like using Skymiles for the plane ticket and things like that....it is insane what it costs just to maintain a reasonable standard of living.

Good Luck Aubrey, you'll make it through.

That must be very difficult, Aubrey.

I agree that it makes more sense to wait a while until you bring Andy over. If you're struggling with your own expenses, I can see why you feel it's best to hold on before adding another person to the mix. I know that he's been struggling to find a job also; Bill had the same problem. He couldn't find a stable position for 2 years and this April, he finally got something. :)

Bill was here for 2 months with me, and for some stupid reason, they decided that us students could live off £500 a month for 4 months ($1500), including rent (which is over half of it) and bills. I found it very hard to pay for the both of us, and it put a bit of strain on the relationship at times as we often miscalculated our budget and ended up blowing through everything too quickly. We learned a lot about what it takes to handle money together, and how much it really costs living together when one is unable to work.

Things will turn out fine in the end, I'm sure of it, even though it's hard to read others making the move right now. I sometimes find it frustrating knowing that it would have been almost 11 months since we filed until we were able to be together. Just know that your own time will come, and you'll be posting exciting news.
