Hello July Friends!

Next Saturday I'm going to see my SO. In the K1 guide its says to send your SO a complete copy of the packet with originals of all supporting documents. So when I see my SO, I plan on giving him the complete copy of our 129F packet. As supporting evidence of our relationship, I included copies of my passport stamps - proof that I'd been to France to see him. Do I really need to give my SO my passport just in case the CO asks for it? Does "originals of supporting evidence" refer to documents that establish identity like a birth certificate or a passport, if used as evidence of US citizenship? Or maybe the original of a divorce decree? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dont give them the passport, i just made a copy of mine. You will need you passport. As far as originals go you can give copies of most docutments because you will need them again when you file adjustment of status, I just give my fiance a certified copy of my birth cert and divorce papers.

I'm sorry, but where exactly did you see that you need to give your SO complete copy of the packet? I couldn't find anything remotely close to that requirement anywhere I looked. It also doesn't seem logical at all. If embassy would require a copy of the packet then we wouldn't need USCIS, since it's their job to work with the packet.

Yes you do need to send a replica to your fiance. here it is:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1guide

a little beyond half way down the page:

IMPORTANT!

Make TWO copies of the entire package before you send it in. This includes the money orders too. You want to have a perfect replica of the package you are sending in. All Forms that you submit must be originals with original signatures. Supporting Evidence that you submit may be photocopies. Retain ALL original supporting Evidence since the USCIS has the right to check them by issuing an RFE (Request For Evidence). If you receive an RFE, follow the direction exactly, and make two copies of what you sent back. During any future interviews the USCIS may also want to examine the original supporting evidence.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jere. 29:11

Yes, VJ says this... however my common sense tells me the important originals are stuff like plane ticket stubs, receipts, and that sort of evidence. Every review at the Frankfurt consulate they don't look at anything, so I have little reason to risk sending originals of sensitive documents, like my birth certificate, divorce papers, and the like. I sent Andy home with a copy of what we submitted and original signatures on the paperwork forms, and the original boarding passes. I'm confidence his lengthy presence here, a couple cards I've mailed, a couple pictures, and a followup letter of intent will be more than sufficient.

I love VJ, but I really do think the advice tends to lean towards overkill. I read over and over again about people presenting piles of evidence at the interview, and then they follow up with "they didn't even look at it." I think I'd only bother if I'd been long separated or coming from a high-risk country. Those are the ones I tend to see problems needing more evidence.

Just my two cents.

here it says to submit:

Copy of the Birth certificate (front and back) for the US Citizen or a copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport issued with a validity of at least 5 years or a copy of the US Citizen's naturalization certificate (front and back). This is used to establish citizenship.

what do u do with originals then? oh idk!

well i think we are suppose to show the originals at the interview if requested. we only sent in photo copies of everything in the 1-129f package. I personally, am not keen on my SO sending his original birth certificate in the mail to me for the interview. As the mail service is dodgy at the best of times. I have read that at quite a few embassys they don't even look at the evidence presented at the interview but there is that chance that they may ask for it. I'm not sure whether to go there with just a copy of his birth certificate (like we did in the 1-129f package) and if they ask me for original then will have to explain why i haven't got it. Or take that risk and have him send me the original. I realise this is a very trivial thing to worry about but it does bother me.
