Question....

I have a serious question. I am not trying to offend anyone but i'm truly curious.

If your SO does not speak English...I don't mean English isn't his or her first language...I mean he or she really speaks like 3 words...and you don't speak his or her language AT ALL....how can you fall in love?

There have been people who have openly admitted that their SO doesn't speak english and they don't speak...whatever yet they are married and immigrating?

I just want to know...is it possible to fall in love without being able to verbally communicate?

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

I saw her suck a golf ball through a garden hose and I asked her to marry me on the spot.

I understand what you mean there Karo and in the case of my hubby and I, even though we are both English and speak it perfectly well, we DID fall in love before we even really spoke to each other.

You have heard "love at first sight" well it really did happen to us, took us a while to really believe that it could happen"just like that" and yet 28 years and we are still together and I can honestly say, that love has grown better over the years

So yes, I do believe that two people can be totally in love without the communication, Love will definitely find a way!!!

You fell in love before you even spoke to eachother? how does that happen?

So you never even CHATTED on the internet? You never said a WORD to him, and you were in love?

The first words out of his mouth could have been. "I'm a pedophile with a drug problem..." but you would have already been smitten? I just don't get that.

I do not know for sure. However, my fiance speaks English, but it is not her first language. In person we do not run into many mis-understandings. However, on the phone we do alot. I think that says alot about how much non-verbal communication/body langauge/hand gestures can make.

I don't think it is wise to judge. There have been many many cases of long happy marriages that started out with both parties speaking different languages, especially at the end of WW2. I'm not sure everyone can fit into the same mold.

But seriously. My wife is Thai and speaks decent (not great) English. I always have understood her English. Other people sometimes have trouble but I always have understood her even when I met her and her English would have been considered poor.

I'm just hijacking this thread, because I just noticed it's karo112's birthday! Happy birthday! Any special plans? :dancing:

:lol: I certainly understand where you are coming from Karo, but remember we are both english and met in the area that we both lived in (remember we are immigrating to our daughter)

We were in a nightclub and just saw each other and that was it basically, we danced, rather close actually  and somehow we just knew. Must admit that I would not go back to the club for over 6 weeks because I was, frankly scared of my emotions, and was only just coming out of a divorce. But when I did go back, we just got together and he had been waiting for that 6 weeks, every Friday night for me to put in an appearance.

It does happen, it's just the same as meeting through an internet site, apart from we were together (internet sites were not around when we met anyway  ) and you can still be told anything on the net, and how would you know the difference. You would say that you have chatted to someone for so long on the net and phone calls and you DO know him, well when it happens like it did for us it is just the same only we saw each and were together practically everyday and within 3 months we were living together. Certainly worked for us.!!

Ha - funny you should ask!

You know, you wouldn't think of this as a first off, but when you and your husband got close for the first time, you would have been attracted or repelled by the pheremones being excreted by some of the glands on his body. Conversely, the same would have happened with him regarding you. :D

Two people have been shown to feel compatible when their scents are attractive to one another. On the other hand, there are relationships in which the scents absolutely do NOT mix, and these have been shown to fall apart pretty much instantaneously! I'm not talking about aftershave, deodorant or stale sweat though, mind - I'm talking about that subtle smell of "him" or "her" that will instantly draw you together when you're close to one another.

Know what I mean? That animalistic qualities of a relationship cannot be undermined!

Also consider this: microexpressions on one's face, body languages - some obvious, others so subtle that they can't be seen as a deliberate gesture - can also bring two people together. How did people fall in love before language existed....they certainly mated somehow! :P

Perhaps the love came when one of the couple was teaching the other to speak his or her language. Who knows. Just don't devalue the subtle, but powerful little human interactions - they're stonger than you might think...

*makes Batman mystery noise and continues drinking coffee* :P:hehe:
