My father-in-law fell in love with tuk tuks so much that he had one shipped from India to England and he potters around his small town in Yorkshire in it...gets funny looks... can't imagine why! LOL

He even drove hubster to our wedding in the tuk tuk. :lol: heehee...

I've never heard them called tuk tuk's in India, though. In which part of India did your FIL hear them called that?

I dunno...I imagine Goa where they spend most of their time when they go...

I've never heard them called tuk tuk's in India, though. In which part of India did your FIL hear them called that?

They are called tuk tuks in Thailand because that is the sound their 2 stroke engine makes. They are being phased out though. Not so sure about India.

They get much better mileage than a car...so for those numerous quick trips around town, FIL is at least using less fuel....and let's face it, he enjoys all the odd looks and explaining what it is...AHAHAHAHAA!

I believe it DOES have some kind of special registration, but he didn't have to get a different driver's license or anything and I know it had to be inspected for road worthiness.
