Ontario Birth Certificate

I just wanted to say how shocked I was when I went to apply to get my long form of my birth certificate. I must say I wa shocked that you now need to have a guarantor to apply for one, and they aren't even the all the same categories of people who are allowed to sign your passport.

Oh well it only set back the filing of the I-129F by a few weeks, which is frustrating since I was hoping for approval this year before the US/ Canada need for air to have a passport (this allows my family to come for the wedding as several family members don't have passports). OH well, I will keep my chin up.

If you haven't even filed your I129F then there is plenty of time for your family members to get passports. I would think they would do that to come and see your wedding.

I thought that wasn't going to be enforced until 2008?

Actually it is enforced in different ways. If you fly it will be the end of 2006, if you drive I think it is 2007 I think, but not 100% sure on that, either way I wil get it now so I don't have to worry about it.

I am lucky that my uncle is a professional engineer and I can use him as my guarantor. I actually did the online application for my long form birth cert. yesterday and I checked today to see what the status of it was, and low and behold it has already been processed and on its way to me!

I don't even need it right now, but I figured I would get the things I can get, like my birth cert. my immunization record and things like that so that when I do need them I won't have to wait for them, or have any unforseeable problems.

Should have our application in the mail tomorrow and then our journey will begin!

Wierd, that must be an Ontario only thing, as I got mine from Manitoba a month ago and all I did was fill in a form and send some cash.
