The expiration date of the NOA2 doesn't really matter much since the case is now being handled by the state department. Often the applicant can't make the date originally assigned and extensions can be granted by the embassy. You don't want to delay long however, so if you have some issues that could delay your interview date, then discuss them with a consular officer at the embassy. Often times the applicant wants to wait until their child finishes the school year before leaving and must get an extension for this purpose.

But, understand that the NOA2 is not an open ended time limit. You need legitimate reasons for requesting an extension. However, once the interview has been completed and approved, the visa is good for six months. So, if you only need a few more months before you are ready to leave, then go to the interview. You can use your visa anytime within the six month period following the approval. That period only means when you have to leave. Once you arrive then you must marry within 90 days or return to your country.
