Gary! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh were not suppose to say that.

But does it matter? We still wasted billions on a desert orgy, that hasn't really improved anything.

Yeah! "FREEDOM" for millions of people is a total waste.

Yes, Freedom to get killed in sectarian violence or American bombs. Freedom to be without running water or electricity. Freedom to have your natural resources to be plundered by American companies.

Freedom not to be yanked off the street and be forced to watch your wife being raped. Freedom to choose your own leaders. Freedom to speak out and not be tourtured for it.

Your pessimissem is breathtaking.

Do you honestly think those freedoms exist in Iraq today? Saddam has been pretty much replaced by sectarian groups, and they are looking for power and control, not necessarily Democracy.

Evil America again and no where in sight is any comments on your beloved saddam

No accountable America. We spent billions what did we get out of it? Iraqi people don't pay US taxes.

Go and ask the Iraq people if they would rather have Saddam back. I doubt if you get to many takers. We have freed millions of people from a dictator. It's been rough but now it's getting better.

I seem to remember that our independance took a war that lasted for many years. Do you think that was worth it?

We also killed millions of people.

We did? Where?

According to your ilk we were suppose to be robbing them blind of theyre oil. Also your statement in bold is very very selfish.

Well this is really fish-bowl thinking at its best isn't it. Baghdad isn't Iraq, neither is Basra.

On the one-hand we have Gen Petraeus telling us that the troop surge has resulted in security improvements that are ultimately reversible; and on the other (as documented by various human rights groups) we have the massive movement of millions of displaced people within the country and outwards into surrounding countries and the EU. People who have been chased out of their homes by the sectarian violence that still requires the prescence of 140,000+ US troops to quell.

This ain't gonna be over any time soon...

Right, I suppose you want to invade Saudi Arabia because the people are under a repressive monarchy. Or maybe Sudan, Zimbabwe or China.

I really think you could care less about freeing a people from a dictator. Its just all your other reasons for being in Iraq fell apart and you need to justify in some way a continued presence there. Because you are convinced that invading Iraq will somehow make the world better.

Actually the invasion of Iraq for oil isn't something that has actually been disproven - given that as a result of the security situation the Iraqi oil fields have been underproducing for many years now... In fact there was a story on monday I think saying that the oil companies are in the process of negotiating contracts to resume oil production in the country. The goal to raise world-wide oil production from 2.5 million barrels to between 4 and 6 million barrels in 10 years time...

Sorry, dont see anyone being chased from theyre homes on the news. maybe the freedom to move has more to do with it. Of course you would never admit that cuz your to invested in defeat. Sometimes i get the feeling ppl such as yourself have a secret wish to be dominated

Iraq war doesn't bring the ratings it used to, so its covered much less frequently. Just because it isn't on the news, doesn't mean the situation on the ground has gotten a lot better.

As usual that pile of twaddle doesn't really merit a response - but given that you're accepting this news story about Baghdad as tangible proof that the Iraq war is over, I'm not overly surprised that you're so dismissive of the stories that don't make the news.

But to follow your logic - if its not on the TV, or hasn't been thrust under your nose it doesn't exist. I guess we know what your answer would be to that question about the tree falling over in the middle of the night with noone around to hear it.

Well if you really want to explore that metaphor - the clear difference (as demonstrated in this thread) is that I graduated to solid food many years ago and learned how to feed myself, while you're still in your high chair chair, playing the "follow the airplane" game with the mashed carrots ;)
