Come on, Wacken. That's a little harsh. I'm sure Marlita wasn't "starting" anything.

That is the exact attitude though that I despise. It is the implication that women should just suck it up and slog through their highest purpose. It is rooted in the idea that the pain is somehow deserved. Think Adam and Eve for a moment. If this were a kidney stone, the attitude would be different. But if it is childbirth, it is mostly in her head or she is somehow not woman enough to take it. She was a 'wuss'. Come on.

I took "wuss" as sister making fun of sister and did not read some deeper and hidden meaning into it going all the way back to Adam and Eve. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

I didn't read it as a joke at all. It seemed to frame her slight sense of disappointment at the fact that her sister didn't have a vaginal birth. She was 'only' 3-5cm, god, suck it up! I am not sure how you could read it as a joke, particularly given the knowledge of the culture that surrounds the idea of pain relief in childbirth. If it was a joke, I didn't find it funny at all.

My younger sis just had a baby via CS. She was going for vag but it just wasnt happening. She got an epi cus she cant stand pain (wuss) and hadnt dialted more than 3-5CM.

Let's not start piszing contests about other women's pain. I hate this misogynic idea that women should just just STFU and suffer though this ####### even when there is no real benefit to it. Some racist British azzhole called Grantly #######-Read in the 1940s came up with the idea of natural childbirth because he was appalled about the number of good white British women not breeding and sought to lure them back into the game by making up this idea that women in "inferior" cultures experienced no pain in childbirth. Only because British society conditioned women to believe childbirth was painful, meant that it was painful. Of course, there was absolutely no evidence for his theories, but like a lot of woo, it caught on anyway. This movement was not started by good intentioned women. It was started by a racist dickhole who thought women had no higher purpose than that of a broodmare. Let that roll around in your head a bit.

i agree with you....to me it was the worst pain i EVER had...and i only got to 3 when i got the epidural put in...all my labor pains were in my back and sides and i can't even describe the pain i was going through...

Pain meds are there for a reason - to stop the pain. In this day and age there is NO reason why a woman should have to suffer the pain of childbirth. If a woman wants to have a pain relief free labour then that's up to her. However, I think she must be bonkers. :P

I had everything going and wouldn't change it for the world - I didn't feel a bloody thing and it was wonderful! Does that make me a wuss? Hardly! I think it means that I had the foresight to realise that having a painful labour acheives nothing but...well, lots of pain!

You know what I agree..what am I trying to prove laying there in pain. I have this debate all the time..Does withstanding pain make me more of a woman and my birth less natural b/c I chose to take pain meds. I was in the hospital for 3 days b/c i started having contractions at 35wks....so i was on meds to stop contractions and meds to stop the pain..I would have been damned if I was gonna sit there and act like I was SUPERWOMAN just so I can prove to the world that I can STAND pain..please..I don't thik so.

As far as electing to have a C-section..didn't think u can elect a c-section...that means ppl are chosing when they want their kids to be born...

I would much rather having vaginal than c-section ..unless I had no other choice

C-sections are becoming so common now b/c of women having children at a younger or older age..smoking, family history, pollution all sort of things

I understand what ur saying though Wacken..who know's how much longer u will take to dialate another CM..could take hours..no one knows until they go thru it themselfs...

Lets all start just making babies in jars instead of carrying them cause it makes us fat and all the other stuff....

Not for me...I LOOOOVE being pregnant and thanks to breastfeeding I bounce right back.

As for the pain...I wouldn't want to have my teeth pulled without any form of pain reliever, why suffer though active labor without any, especially when you are on your back, strapped to all those contraptions? You feel the pain even more. It's like concentrating on a headache. If I shoudl go into labor myself though, I won't have an epi, since it made my labor stall last time so I'm going with a milder pain reliever.

C-Section! Who wants a stretched vag?

Exaclty...and daddy takes off three weeks to do the household chores and take care of the baby. I wuoldn't have a problem with a c/s then either. You know that there's no intercourse for 6 weeks after a c/s. It took me 6 months to 'recover' but hey...have no streched vag...awesome...
