we've been waiting since november and finally decided to take a trip out of the country. a family member receiving our mail said the interview letter finally arrived but it will be for while we are gone. is it possible to reschedule over the phone? and if so, will that cause any problems at all or make it go for waaaay later in the year? :(

thanks in advance.

If it were me, I'd be packing my bags right about now. Don't mess with your interview date. It's not a good idea.

Others have tried to re-schedule appointments without success -even when it is USCIS doing the re-scheduling! A number of couples have been denied because they failed to show up at the original interview date which they had been told was canceled except the cancellation and re-schedule information didn't seem to make it to where it needed to be. They spent a lot of time, worry and more paperwork trying to get their files re-opened. Another recent couple called for a re-schedule but were able to make their original date after all and when they went, the interviewer had no record of the re-schedule. They would have been marked as no shows if they had gone with the re-schedule rather than the original date. If you are at all able to make the interview date, be there, even though it means cutting your holiday short and paying to move the tickets. Good luck.

oh wow that sucks!!!i think as much as i hate to agree with the others, but i think i would cut the vacation and head back home for that interview. i certainly wouldnt trust uscis with reschedualing, you could possibly end up getting a denial for abandonment while waiting for your new interview or maybe not, maybe everything will be fine but would not want to even take a chance with that. good luck.

Perfectly said...

It also states on the bottom of the Interview letter that in order to reschedule, you, or an immediate family member must be ill making it impossible for you to attend the interview.

I do not think a vacation justifies reschedule in their eyes...

Good Luck

The price for not attending the interview may well be unbearable for you. You would be wise to return home enough in advance of the interview to be well prepared.

Oh wouldn't it just figure that u'd receive it now.... :bonk: kick them all girl...

I say to do whatever it takes to make it to the interview if at all humanly possible. Too many horror stories of denial have been told due to missing that initial interview date when they thought it had been rescheduled... Good luck girl!!!

The appointment is really important at this stage. Unfortunately you chose to leave before the interview and now must pay the price for that decision. Considering how long it took to get to this point, do you really want to be pushed back because of a trip. Tell everyone goodbye and get on the plane.

Until when were you planning to stay out of the country and when is your interview. If it means you need to pay an extra 100 to 300$ and shorten your stay by a few days to make it on time I think you should.

Especially since you have no way to send USCIS the reschedule form at the end of the notice.

Interview are usually scheduled with a 3 weeks notice at least, so unless you were planning to stay out of the country for over a month you should be able to make it back on time.

Oh wow this is terrible news! I would have to pay more than a few hundred dollars to reschedule my flights! There is a difference in airfare as well! :( Which will obviously be sky high with summer/short notice prices! arghhhhhhh!!!

I don't know when the exact date is yet. I'm waiting to hear back from my family member who received the letter for us. Hopefully its late August! :(

Thanks for all the tough love guys. hehe

Would I be correct in saying this that if you miss the interview, and you are out of the country, would you run the risk of being denied re-entry?

I'm not surprised...yet disappointed that you can't simply reschedule an appointment and the corresponding agencies can't get their sh*t together to let someone know it has been rescheduled. Its really frustrating we might have to pay thousands extra because of that. hmmph I'm hoping when I hear back from my family member what date it is I will have already been back in time to get some information together to bring to the interview! :D
