Consumation is a part of sustainability.

It dosen't strike you as off kilter when 5% of the world's population (USA) consumes 24% of the world's energy?

So? We work harder than 95% percent of the world. In your world North Korea must be right on kilter.

Evil dam americans, they need to suffer.

The guilt is driving some people mad.

Look what these dam elephants are consuming and they are soooooo wasteful! What should we do to them?

Diet

Elephants are herbivores, spending 16 hours a day collecting plant food. Their diet is at least 50% grasses, supplemented with leaves, bamboo, twigs, bark, roots, and small amounts of fruits, seeds and flowers. Because elephants only digest 40% of what they eat, they have to make up for their digestive system's lack of efficiency in volume. An adult elephant can consume 140–270 kg (300–600 lb) of food a day. 60% of that food leaves the elephant's body undigested.

The dems better get on the drilling side of the issue or they will be taking some big hits. Just watch.

Ha-ha... No.

Simply pointing out that the waste product produced by an elephant provides a benefit to the environment, whilst the by-products of the oil economy do not.

Lets be realistic here, the oil companies like that there are restrictions on drilling in the US. It drives the price up and gives them security for future drilling when we really need it to defend ourselves. Our cars use a minority of the fuel consumed in the US so changing fuel for transportation will help but we need a solution for all energy consumption. Wind and solar can help but again not the total solution. It will take a very long time to change the entire US to not depend on fosil fuels for energy. In the meantime fosil fuels will become extremely expensive beyond where it is now before we really make the effort to change.

Anything so as not to feel any responsibilty for using a non renewable resource at an ever expanding rate and being able to continue to do so in as wreckless a fashion as possible.

There is nothing wrong with trying to limit fuel consumption or trying to produce goods that use energy as efficiently as possible. There is nothing wrong with walking/cycling to places that are within a distance that makes it feasible to do so. There is nothing wrong with mass transport systems in conjunction with personal transport systems that seek to use energy more efficiently and there is nothing wrong with trying to make the energy resources that we currently have available to us last as long as possible regardles of whether there are workable energy solutions in the future.

I think god made a mistake. He should have made 'wastefulness' the biggest sin.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

1. leave feelings out of this

2. I support conservation, clean energy (including nuclear), renewable resources and polluting less.

3. I recycle, compost, grow a garden and ride van pool to work. I also would like to see much higher mpg cars. What we really need is a breakthrough in battery technology (which people are working on). Of course we'll need plenty of nuclear plants to supply that clean energy. At least until fusion power is an option. This whole fossil fuel problem will solve itself as it runs out.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Leave semantics out of this - talk about #######. This attempt to eradicte the use of the word 'feel' in any sentence relating to political argument is about as sensible as the endless use of political correctness even when it is completely inapplicable. Have fun with that.

As far as the rest, good for you re your responsible use of energy. However, good luck on the 'the whole fossil fuel problem will solve itself as it runs out' comment, completely facile.
