The father of little Johan Sebastian is not LDS, but Catholic. When Edwin stopped by to visit Johan, but was ignored by his son, and asked kindly by Julio (Onelis' Father) to, "Please, Go Away!" Edwin nearly broke down in tears. In between the bill collectors stopping by (on Motorbike) for utilities payments, and friends from down the street, up walked Edwin. He did not recognize me, nor did he ask who I was. He just asked if, "Johan would come out to see him."

I looked carefully at this late-20s laborer from this hard-scrabble section of town. His hair was uncombed, his face covered in sweat, wearing a stained white undershirt and worn pants, he could have been mistaken for a panhandler. But, Edwin is a hard-working Construction worker just like a majority of the men you will find in the Los Cedros section of Soledad - 2 miles south of the Football stadium (Estadio Metropolitano) and Shakira park - which lie on the south end of town (Barranquilla).

My friend Leon told me, "Mexico isn't really Latin America. Latin America begins in Central America...where you have to look over your back everywhere you go." Leon was right. Stories like these are too strange. You can't just make them up. 3 Yrs. ago, in Tallinn, Mariehamn, and Helsinki were completely tame. Barranquilla, Tarapoto, and Cartagena are completely in your face. But, you don't have to take my word for it...I did beg for money at the Tarapoto airport, though.

Why did you beg for cash? And post some pics of Finland, etc. when you get a chance. How was Scandinavia (other than tame). Vika and I are considering a trip there.
