Tonight, I broke the news to Leidys. I asked her to share this information with her family.

My cousins today told me how imperative it is for me to file those K-1 papers. This was my fathers wish, and he wanted to see his son happy. I will continue working on my paperwork tomorrow morning.

Ken I am soo sorry for your loss. I understand for the most part of what your going through. My own mother passed away in 2003 from Multiple Myeloma. I will pray for your family and you.

This has been a very challenging time. My mother looks at me with a tear in her eyes every time she asks, "What would I do without your help, Ken?" In the hospital, I was my father's guardian - consulting with his team of Physicians in order to meet the criteria outlined on his advanced directive. Now, that job is over.

My K-1 visa with Leidys waits. Relatives throughout the country are set to visit soon for the visitation and funeral, leaving me little time to focus on my studies or the K-1 that my father discussed with me from his death bed. Would a lawyer be a better option? I donno. But, time is so rare nowadays. I am tending to two seperate households, tackling chores for each one, fielding phone calls throughout the day, working with the gardener, and even explaining to a certain neighbor of my mother's that, THEIR STUFF'S NOT FOR SALE! .

In my garage in my favorite chair is the knitted blanket that kept my father warm as he began to waste away in his hospital bed. I took a picture of him - blind, mentally focused, able only to hear, with my mother praying at the foot of his bed, twenty minutes before his departure. I will miss him. I will miss his friendship. I will miss his advice he gave me on such simple things in life. I will miss watching the love he showed my mother 47 years after they married. I will miss everything he was able to teach me about being positive, humble, soft-spoken, and always willing to help anyone who needed it.

Yesterday, the Obituary for my father ran in the local newspapers and on-line. While at the Animal Hospital, picking up preventive meds for the dogs, I received a phone call from the Ex-Wife, Suzanne.

Suzanne heard from her boss at work that my father had passed, although, I alerted her early last week that my father was gravely ill. Although, we are divorced, Suzanne feels that would still be appropriate for her to attend the viewing that will take place this afternoon. I told her this would not be appropriate due what happened prior to our getting a divorce.

Suzanne is a Cancer survivor and also has Systemic Lupus, and for us, adoption looked to be our only option. Just weeks before initiating our divorce, Suzanne had pressed me to borrow $25,000.00 from my parents to adopt a child from Guatemala. Had we had done this, my mother reminds me, "Your life would have certainly changed for the worse. You would not know what to do."

Out of simple respect, I asked Suzanne not to attend the viewing today. But, she refused to hear my side of things. One the phone to Leidys last night, Leidys asked, "Will Suzanne expect to be part of our lives in the years to come?" This is not fair, because as my father was on his hospital bed in ICU, still coherent, I told him that I told Suzanne of his condition, and he did not respond in any way. He just told me to file the K-1 for Leidys. Nothing about Suzanne. Not in any way.

My father was not one to create enemies. He chose his words and his battles very carefully. Leidys said, "Expect to see her there tomorrow. She will show up just for the fun of it." I hope Leidys is wrong, because my mother remembers the hours each night on the phone I spent with my father, reeling from the pain of the divorce. At this point, I do not know what to do.

I wish you the best with Leidys and hope it is a quick journey for you. A far as the EX do not let it affect you in any way. Act like she is not even there if she shows.
