I am so sorry, Ken. I hope your Dad and Leidys get to meet. My Mom entered hospital the same weekend Joe and I became engaged and none of us realized she would never leave. She died a month later never having met Joe and that is one of my main regrets. They would have adored each other. I hope your Dad and Leidys get the opportunity my Mom and Joe didn't have.

Yesterday, I went to the hospital at about 2 in the afternoon. I was very worried about my father and he looked so much worse. He was thirsty, but he could not drink anything. He was breathing like he had been running in the streets, his skin was cool and clammy, his eyes fixated straight ahead towards the nurses station outside of his room. After talking with the doctor, we were told that he would not survive through the night. I asked the nurse to give him medication to help slow down his respiration, but after the drug took effect, his breathing and heart rate continued to slow.

He could hear our voices and move his head, but he could not talk or see with his eyes. I played some soft music for him, and my mother sat and prayed with him. She cried in disbelief that her husband was now gone. I told my father that I would protect her for the rest of her life. He moved his head in acknowledgment of that. I took their picture together, and suddenly, he began to breath slower and slower. He took 4 or 5 deep breaths, and finally came to a rest.

My father was so proud of my brother and I.

On July 28th, I turned 40 and on July 29th, my brother turned 45. My father would have turned 80 on May 26th, 2009. His two grandsons (born to my brother & his wife) will turn 10 on May 26th, 2009.

All the relatives say the same thing. We have the same voice too. We were extremely close. When he was admitted to the hospital 2 weeks ago, he asked if I had filed the K-1 yet. I told him, "I'm working on it." He said, "If you want me to meet Leidys, you had better file your papers."
