I'm going to post general stuff related to my trip to Barranquilla, the buildup to Carnaval, the big Cumbia music festival happening there in 2 weeks, but nothing really personal. So, no more comments about being a porn star. Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

As long as you keep posting pics of all your bichez, it's all good.

Um, if you listen to Cumbia music, enjoy Colombian food, or want pics of the city, you'll love the rest of the thread. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed.

Peace,

Ken

From Wikipedia.org

Cumbia is a Colombian musical style and folk dance that is considered to be representative of Colombia, along with Vallenato. Cumbia originated from the Caribbean coast of Colombia, with closely related variants existing today in Panama.

Cumbia began as a courtship dance practiced among the slave population that was later mixed with European instruments and musical characteristics. It was also used during the Colombian struggle for independence as an expression of resistance against Spain.

Today traditional cumbia is preserved and considered representative of the Colombian identity, especially on the northern Caribbean coast. It is associated with the Carnival of Baranquilla and the Vallenato Legend Festival. Modern forms of cumbia are are also combined with other genres such as vallenato or rock. This mixing of genres is found in the music of modern artists such as Carlos Vives.

Does that mean no more bichez?

Frida and Tijuana are both Chihuahuas - Frida being a brindle Reindeer similar to the dog featured in the Taco Bell ads. Tijuana is a cream-coated Applehead. While Frida was bred by a friend with his cousins Chihuahua, Tijuana was rescued by the city from a puppymill operated by a woman with repeat violations. Tijuana barely survived both Parvo and Ringworm vaccinations. Although, Tijuana lives a healthy life, her rear legs are deformed and she will require surgery one day to correct this problem due to imbreeding. Here are the bitches!

Both dogs live in my kitchen full-time. The rest of the bachelor pad has bamboo flooring, and the kitchen has linoleum. So, no poo-poo on the bamboo.

"Next week" has a hefty ring to it. 7 months and 1 hospitalization, 2 EKG's, a stress test, a chest X Ray, and lots of worrying, and Leidys and I will finally reunite. Its' going to be a short time together, but our plans are already coming into form.

Next Friday is a "Carnaval eve" sort of event named, "Noche de Guarnacherna." What MayDay to the Techno music in Berlin, Guarnacherna is Cumbia music to the Barranquillernos. Semi trucks pulling flatbed trailers, decorated for a festive night parade pump pitched-up Cumbia music to thousands strong in the streets of Barranquilla.

Funny, you hear little in travel journals about the individual events surrounding Carnaval - leave it to the locals to explain the culmination of events that make up the Colombian Carnaval - 2nd only in this hemisphere to Rio's Carnaval. Leidys is excited, and ready to show me as much of this event that I can witness in my short amount of time I will be able to spend in her city.

Seeing it with a native speaker and guide is the best! You will have an awesome time Ken!
