"The Calling Card Hustle"

In Barranquilla, I know what it is to be hustled. Walking through downtown, watching storekeepers chase after shoplifters can easily raise your eyebrows. But, what about pulling yourself from the local newscast to drive to the local liquor store to spend $2 for a calling card that might or might not dial through to your intended party?

Onelis played the game with me of turning off her telephone. She wouldn't pay her phone bill, and used this as a reason to ask me for some money. But, things are different. Shortly after meeting Leidys, I bought her a cell phone that she keeps on at all times for me to reach her. No games, no drama. Just consistent conversation 24/7 - as needed. But, tonight - after being asked by some goof if I would drive him someplace in my 4x4, and spending money on a calling card, I couldn't get through to either the land line nor the cell phone.

The wierd thing is how the land line will seem to dial, but from her end will appear perfectly fine and operational. But, with my experience in using the Extra Extra card, it just won't work. Pasaporte seems to always dial through, but the calls drop, causing the loss of precious minutes. Skype is 100% effective, every time. But, with a price that is 5X the cost of Extra Extra, I just haven't bothered to use it lately.

So, here I sit - alone and waiting. 4 weekends from now, I will be dancing with Leidys in Barranquilla at Sweet Chalet. But sadly, I can't reach her tonight on the phone. Tomorrow, she will come looking for me on the Windows Messenger. But, tonight its a lonely kind of quiet.

I dont know why he hasn't changed his name to Ken and Leidys, now that Onelis is no longer in the picture,.....If iit has been less than a yr since his last name change he can always ask the Capt'n......

Capt'n has been asked in the summer. I was told to wait until March '09 to change my name.
