July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well,they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit,nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !


June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again,still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!
December 23,2010-Work authorization received.
January 12,2011-RFE

I didn't send any money. It later became obvious to me that Onelis' main objective was for me to prop her up and, "Just send cash." Pretty sad, but I fell for it. Live & Learn, I guess. Looking back, I am so much better off that things did not progress with Onelis and I. Having lived through a bad marriage rife with in-law troubles, cult members, lies & deceit, I came out of it with only a heart condition. It could possibly have been worse. But, here I am on VJ to talk about it.

My plan is to return to Barranqilla in a few months. Tickets have been purchased, my Spanish is now better than ever, and I am looking forward to visiting the true renia de Barranquilla. But, last year was an entirely different story.

During this exact same weekend in '07, I traveled to Mexico for a short 4WD weekend in the desert just outside of Mexicali, Mexico (40 mi. southwest of Yuma, Arizona). Upon returning to the United States, one of the drivers in my party sped ahead, popped open a bottle of hard liquor to make the drive go much faster, and he totalled his 4WD pickup and seriously damaged a school bus used to transport agricultural workers to the fields and back.

So, just 2 days before I was to leave for Barranquilla, I was defending my drunken friend from the jaws of the Mexican judicial system, and later myself -- because, I later towed him and his wrecked pickup back to the United States International border. My charges were for, "Illegally Towing another vehicle with an unapproved towing apparatus." I was to spend time in jail for this charge, and also forfeit my $40,000.00 Jeep Rubicon as well. Long story short, the police had to be paid off, we were promply shuttled to the front of the border line, and within 3 hours of Toms DUI, his totalled vehicle, himself and myself (and my $40,000.00 Jeep) were safe and sound on American soil.

I made my plane to Barranquilla less than 48 hours later, and the story continues...

Tom fishing around for his registration and insurance materials. These didn't matter, because the police were simply looking for some extra holiday money from us Americanos. Moral of the story: Don't drink & drive this holiday season. Especially, when you are traveling internationally.

48 hours after this possibly tragic event, I was in a balmy tropical paradise with Onelis. Here are a few photographs from that special week before the home invasion in Onelis' home.

Back in Onelis' barrio. Gordo (seated left), and Onelis' devout Mormon brother Hans playing a friendly game of checkers using old beer caps. Hans would later beat a home intruder senseless with his bare hands while his father beat the assailant with a baseball bat. The mother later brought the family Machete out and nearly severed the assailants arm! :blink: This was better than any reality television I had ever seen.
