I didn't dress up for our civil ceremony because it was minus 10 and blizzarding on the day -_-

For our actual wedding ceremony I wore an off-the-rack knee length empire waisted dress - not very traditional I'd say

here's a small pic showing the back of the dress:

I got my dress two days ago for 70$ ....it is very retro, 60's style and looks actually surprisingly nice on me with my 8 month baby bump. I just added a silver ribbon creating an empire waist with it. It is ivory lace with silver - threads and goes to the knees...I love it! And I'm pretty glad that I've found something which won't make me look huge! I also like it because it's so retro :)

I guess if you will be having a big wedding a year from now, pick something appropriate to the site of your civil ceremony. Putting on a special dress will add a little more magic to the day. Even though it is more of a formal thing, it is your real wedding day :). Flowers, dress, make up and hair are good additions to the most important thing - long-awated and trialed by US government marriage to your man!

We decided to have two weddings as well. Good friend of ours is a notorary, so she can marry us, even though we re still considering eloping :) I will have a real wedding dress for the big ceremony sometime next year. However, been somewhat a fashionista, I had to have a speical civil ceremony dress :). I thought about buying one from BCBG in Orlando (I adore their dresses), but than stambled upon the cutest dress online. I got my mom's designer friend to make a replica for me. We already picked the fabric so she should start cutting any day now :)

Actually, here is the dress. Would love to hear some input :)

Ok, so I have to admit to being addicted to fashion. And I love the dress. It is very "now" but the little details show classic detailing like the shoulder. Utterly beautiful. Personally I would lesson the tulip skirt & omit the pockets, but thats b/c I have generous hips and boottie. If youy can carry it off take it all the way.

What does the back look like?

Our wedding was a garden ceremony in the summer. I found this dress at Ross Dress For Less. It was originally $89, was on sale for $30. It's not a "traditional" wedding dress...not even a wedding dress per se, but for me....Perfect! :D

I think it looks lovely, seems to have classic lines and the embroidery drifting down the side to enhance womanly curves, yep again lovely.

To top it all off what a bargain. Way to go. If there is anything I like more than fashion it is fashion which is a bargain.

It looks like a lovely wedding dress and suits you, from what I can tell. I think its how you feel in it that makes it a wedding dress oh and the fact you wear it to get married thats the other part. :P

And if you want to post more pics to show off the dress hint hint ;) .....

I figured you'd be a fashion addict as well when you mentioned resemblence to Becky Bloomwood in another thread. LOL :)

I was thinking about skipping the pockets, but then I do like them :) I did pick a darker color to slim me down a bit and then can keep the dress for other formal evening events. I would hate to wear it once and have it seating in the closet ;) Here is the back: 8.jpg

So have you decided on what to wear? By the way, if you want a good place to look at formal gowns check out www.theknot.com. They have wedding and bridesmaid dresses from all the top designers. While most of the stuff is outregiously expensive (10k gowns anybody?), you can get an idea of what you like and what is in this season than go bargain shopping in the area :).

Gorgeous, though again if it was me I would emulate the shoulder detail at the front the same at the back. Can't tell you why just seem right in my head.

I can't make up my mind about the civil but for the big do, I'd like a-line, v-neck, gathered in at the waist empire height, chapel train. Haven't seen anything exactly like what I want but the three attached have elements of what I am looking for. As for the civil wedding I want something I can wear again.

Then you shoud look for cocktail dresses or depending on your civil wedding date a summer dress.

JCrew or Nordstrom often have dresses for sale, I know some people use them for bridesmaid dresses, you should check it out, there might be a color you like.

Well, all three dresses are great :) Now the challenge is to find one that will combine all of them. As for the civil ceremony, cocktail dress sounds like a great idea. In addition to JCrew and Nordstrom, try finding a BCBG Max Azria outlet. I love their evening and cocktail wear and outlet prices are oftentimes surprisingly low. Another good place can be Macy's and sometimes JC Penny (I got my prom dress for $40 in a sale there and it was really pretty!) Edited by Ana&D
