US-Canada Passport plan

there are probably several thousands of illegal Canadians in the US at any given time. I've even found their blogs while searching for other stuff. They came for a holiday and just never left, or came for a holiday, met someone, got married and then didn't file AOS for whatever reason. Still not anywhere near the number of illegals from south of the border, but illegal is illegal, no matter where you're from.

As for the Guarantor required for the Canadian passport application, I find it a bit difficult to believe that you know only one person who could possibly sign it for you. And even if you do, why not just mail it to that person, rather than wait for some time that may not come til you next see them? They don't need to sign it in your presence. Just a suggestion.

Here's a list:

Eligible guarantors

Your guarantor must:

Be a Canadian citizen residing in Canada and must be accessible to Passport Canada for verification.

Have known you personally for at least two years.

Be one of the following:

Chiropractor

Dentist

Geoscientist

Judge

Lawyer (member of a provincial bar association), notary in Quebec

Magistrate

Mayor

Medical doctor

Minister of religion authorized under provincial law to perform marriages

Notary public

Optometrist

Pharmacist

Police officer (municipal, provincial or RCMP)

Postmaster

Principal of a primary or secondary school

Professional accountant (APA, CA, CGA, CMA, PA, RPA)

Professional engineer (P.Eng., Eng. in Quebec)

Senior administrator in a community college (includes CEGEPs)

Senior administrator or teacher in a university

Veterinarian

I had the Controller/Accountant in the office where I used to work sign my first application forms. It doesn't necessarily need to be someone who knows you intimately, (ie: family or close friend) just someone who's known you for 2 years or more.

Heck, even if I hadn't had anyone at work, or my Lawyer Uncle, I could have gone back to my old church and had the priest sign it. I haven't been to church in decades. But I'm sure he'd still know me.

Considering a passport is required for an immigration application, and if you're planning to immigrate to the US, you'll need it sooner rather than later. Once you send in the forms, its only a couple of weeks to get it back. You can even go pick it up at the passport office yourself if you request it.

I believe Americans will need their passports to re-enter the US after crossing the border before Canadians will be required to show a passport at the border. James thought it rather crazy when we got home from Scotland that he had to show his passport to come home, and I only had to show my green card  He did eventually ask for my passport tho, and looked for the visa stamp for the UK. I guess looking to see whether I had been there legally?

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

... an exorbitant fee.

The fee is hardly exhorbitant, considering the document is good for 10 years.

I thought 15? I got mine last year and it expires in feb 2015

Awww Icey, that was cute...last year was 2005, so that's still 10 years...blonde moment! :P

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!

$9.70 a year for a US Passport. Is that so much? Once you have it you might want to leave North America to explore the world.

Why i do believe I'm on ignore, lol

I don't think so ;)

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I guess if you live in a remote part of the country and are a loner who likes to stick to himself, then you can forget about getting a passport. Seems wrong, somehow.
