My wife and I are finally getting close to the end of our journey(K3). I am starting to look at prices for tickets for her coming to the USA. I am wondering if anyone else has thought of purchasing two RT tickets from the US to the country of there spouse and using the last half of the ticket? (ex. to RT tickets from the USA to Thailand and back and only using the return portion of the one ticket for my wife)

Thanks

John

what do you mean "end of journey of the K3?" have you been approved yet.. sorry, your signature says you are still waiting to be approved.. after the approval, there should be at least 2-3 months waiting from the NVC (National Visa Center) to her consulate.. so you should be able to visit her again..

sorry, haha, just read your internal timeline.. congrats =) you are almost through.. well, just think of it this way.. you can make the money back for the lost trip of the airline ticket, but you cannot make back the time you lost with your wife... enjoy the time with your wife and don't worry about the ticket.. that's what I would do.. you will have her soon enough.. for me, I'll GIVE my BMW away if you can get my wife here in the next month.. that's how much I want her here.. I don't care for the car and other things now.. just want her here so we can spend everyday together..

Are you saying that you will buy 2 RT tickets from the US and then you will use yours to fly to your wife and bring her the other ticket and then she will use just the return portion of the RT that was not used in the US?

If that's what you're saying, I don't believe that's possible. I believe that the first leg of the trip has to be used in order to activate the 2nd leg. You can call the airlines and ask, but I'm pretty sure that's how it works or that is one huge flaw in their system. That would mean travelers would be able to circumvent the one-way ticket.

Call and be sure this is possible.

Buy a round trip from there for her. When she arrives cancel the return portion and you should get some credit although there is usually a fee involved. But you can use the "cancelled" part towards a ticket within the next year. This works with almost all tickets even nonrefundable ones ( you are getting a credit for a fee not a refund ) check ahead as fees vary and may make it not worth it.

I have tried but in Brazil that did not work since the first part of the ticket was not used they leave the return invalid... they only gave me a small credit for it... Make sure you check with your airlines if they allow that.... In my case it was American Airlines... Good luck to you
