actually, i thought the worst was jagermeister. :barf:

Jägermeister is pretty bad. The first drink my husband ever brought me was this concoction his friend made of Jäger and cherry juice. It was disgusting.

Yesterday, we had ate a lot at the restaurant my sister works at. My husband said he wished he had a shot of Jäger to settle his stomach. I wanted to puke at the suggestion, but he insisted it was good for digestion.

on occasion when we were growing up my mom would give us a sip of brandy if we had a sore throat... oh my gosh that was almost worse then Buckley's ..lol

My mother was a hardcore Mormon when we were younger, so there was never any liquor in the house. She did try every bizarre combination of herbal woo on us though.

As we've strayed far from plane tickets....

warm whiskey, lemon juice, and honey was what we were given when we were congested or had sore throats as children. Just a small bit (maybe 2 oz of the total concoction.

I had a hot toddy at the Weinachtsmarkt this past year. It brought back some memories :)

So, I decided to turn to research for some answers:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/air-trave...-infant/HQ00197

http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/pa/pa_travelai_pep.htm

This one is really long, but great:

http://parents.berkeley.edu/advice/going/t...th-infants.html

"And some unsolicited advice: I often offer to buy my immediate seatmates (front/back/next) a glass of wine as soon as we're all seated - I pre-apologize about their sitting next to a baby and offer the glass of wine. It's a great ice-breaker and disarms most of the people we've flown with."

"THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for buying a seat for your child. I cannot begin to describe how horriffic it is to fly seated next to someone attempting to restrain an 8 month old child on his/her lap for 6-12 hours."

"I also recommend sitting near the back of the plane-although the engine is much louder, it drowns out the sound of your child and also masks noises in the cabin that can wake them up. Also it puts you near the stewards station so you can get as much milk warmed up as you need , extra napkins for spills etc. Also they can easily keep an eye on the baby when you need to use the toilet. There are usually more free seats back there too."

"Don't have the infant sitting on your lap. Buy a seat on the plane for your infant, take the car seat, and strap her in just as you would if she were riding in your car. It's against the law to have your child riding without a car seat in a car; why take any less care when flying with her in an airplane? Depend upon it; if there's trouble with the plane, you will not be able to keep her safe holding her in your lap. It will also be more pleasant for you to make the long ride with your hands free."

thank you for the links, they're really interesting! I'm planning a trip with my son when he's 4months old. No idea how I'm going to juggle the stroller, car seat, carry on luggage and the kid...

My advice is:

1) Don't do it by yourself.

2) Wait until the baby is a few months older, if possible. 4 months is still awfully young. I'd suggest from 7-8 months on as a better time.

I flew with United back in 2003. Because of a weather problem, I missed my flight to Brussels. They upgraded me to Economy Plus and I couldn't complain that much beyond I had lost a day of my time. That was 5 years ago today (!) though.

I have recently heard comparisons of United with US Airways which is really concerning to me because US Airways is absolute garbage. Both times I flew with them, I absolutely regretted being so cheap.

And just in time for this discussion - a news story:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/0....off.plane.kiro

The comments on that story are hilarious - go Southwest! How bad does it have to be for them to divert the plane? I bet everyone else on board cheered when they saw the back of them.

From the video it's pretty clear the problem is the parents and not the kids, who clearly haven't been taught any better. And "austism" and "cerebral palsy" aren't an excuse to allow your children to behave like animals.
