get a box ... put holes in it ... food ... water ... and check the kid(s) :bonk:

Yeah, but now they are starting to charge for checked bags. :P

Oh and try Air Berlin. P got a really REALLY good deal with them.

I looked, but all of their destinations in the US are on the coasts. Thanks though. :)

I think we all just have to get used to the fact that prices ain't gonna change, the days of cheap long haul flights are over. We don't have to like it though.

Time to get a sailboat. My IL's do live direct on the Weser...:bonk:

I guess it is all a shock to me because we paid 1150€ in October 2006 for all of us to fly over during Christmas. Though now I realize, it really isn't that far off in euros, in dollars it is a completely different story what I had figured. Good thing my in-laws are paying in euros.

Hope next flight gets better for both of us!

Yeah, me too. :D

Check what their carry on luggage limit is. I flew to the UK with just carry on. Delta allow you up to 40lbs which, if you are staying with family, is more than enough. You will have access to a washer/dryer over there and can launder clothes instead.

Plus it means that the airline never loses your bags and you get through arrivals quicker.

We have found the last couple of years that if you fly on Christmas Day the rates go down significantly. I know it messes with the holiday, but our schedules thankfully permitted this, and we just did our holiday celebrations later. Coming to the states is obviously better to fly on Christmas day, since you gain time, but lat year (or year before, I forget) it saved us close to $300.

I took your advice and had a look at that. The prices were quite a bit cheaper on Christmas Day. Playing with Northwest for awhile, I eventually found a fare that was as cheap as the Christmas Day fare on the 22nd of December. The worst part was beating a decent connection out of the search machine. I must have played with it for two hours.

After a week of exhaustive searching, I bought our tickets from IND to BRE for $2023 (taxes included) from Northwest/KLM. That is significantly better than the original figure I got from multiple airlines using other dates on SideStep. There was no child discount though. Oh well.

I have never flown KLM/Northwest before. I am sure you all are getting your horror stories out.:help:

I was looking up airfare from here to Bremenish around X-masish. The cheapest thing I can find is $2852 for the three of us.:wacko:

Go to Hamburg or Berlin instead, rent a car for a day and drive to Bremen.

I played with the idea, but it:

1) Wasn't cheaper by more than probably $20 if it wasn't already more expensive.

2) Rental car + gas + ####### exchange rate would wipe out any savings we would have experienced in airfare.

I just checked. Me and the kids (one 2yo and one baby) could travel from Houston to Leipzig Germany for about 1300 Dollars but that would be next year in May/June. Actually not that bad but I doubt that I can survive a 2year old AND a 9 months old together on an international flight.

I'm sure you will survive. It's the other passengers that I'm worried about. :innocent:

See, I don't care about those AT ALL. My son threw his pacies and blankies at the poor guy next to me on the flight from Germany to Houston but...what can I do. Can't really explain a one year old to behave and sit still for so long. I'm more worried about my sanity but I guess once the doors on the plane are closed I'll get through it somehow and so will everybody else. Don't you love moms with infants in an airplane????

I HATE them with a passion. There's nothing worse than having to sit next to a crying baby on a plane.

Drug the #### out of them, is that too much to ask?

NOPE, and I do that because I know there's people like you. You take the drugs, I let my kids scream. My son didn't cry on the way back to Houston but he threw stuff around.
